Ad Council Ads on Renda Stations' Online Streams

Renda stations including KMGL and KOMA in OKC run Ad Council Ads on their online streams, but do they still run regular ads over-the-air? I was wondering about this over last summer after Renda brought back their online streaming to their stations including KMGL, KOMA, and KRXO in OKC back in May. I always thought online streams are suppose to be programmed exactly the same with their program over-the-air, but that may not be true for ads with Renda Broadcasting in OKC.

FYI: I'm a KMGL listener from Dallas. I was really excited when I heard Renda brought back their online streaming for their stations in OKC. My parents doesn't visit OKC much over the past few years because I got my braces off and they don't have to take me to OKC for a check-up with my dentist much anymore.

A lot of this has to do with restrictions on ads done by union (AFTRA) talent... they want paid extra for ads that play on-line, so many advertisers request those spots NOT be streamed.

Yup.  Everyone wants a piece of the presumed money that streaming will make.  The truth is many times streaming doesn't even make money, yet the vultures are always swirling.  They include AFTRA and the record companies hiding behind the Sound Exchange banner.  Then, of course, there's sports rights.  Even though a broadcaster pays out the nose for over-the-air rights, they cannot stream the sports team because someone else has the rights to that. It's about like a land owner not owning the mineral rights.  Some talk programs want to retain their rights to charge people to stream their show instead of letting radio stations that carry them stream it.  Everyone is purely greedy at radio station's expense IMHO.  The one that looses of course is the listener as many stations just refuse to subscribe to the insanity.  Streaming as a technology is a wonderful thing if it wasn't mucked up by all the vultures.

Thanks guys, now I know that the ads that they run during the commercial breaks over-the-air are regular ads while the ads they run during the commercial breaks on the online streams are all ad council ads.

I don't really pay attention to commercials, but after listening to KMGL over online stream over the summer in Dallas, I'm starting to realize that's all ads they are running are ad council ads. I remember when I last visit OKC with my mom, we were listening to KMGL over-the-air, and I was hearing regular ads like Frontier City, White Water Bay, Honda Dealers, and such local ads over-the-air. So, I always thought that they adopted Ad Council ads over the summer, but that wasn't true. It's actually the Ads Council ads on their online streams that they had been running the first place when they brought back their online streams in May.

Btw, Renda's KBEZ in Tulsa also runs Ad Council Ads as well. Renda stations including KBEZ and KHTT in Tulsa had also brought back their online streams recently, although I don't know when, probably around July or August.

Yeah...  Tony was a hold-out on streaming for quite some time, mainly because he detested paying all the vultures.  Unfortunately it's getting harder to hold out and not stream in the year 2011.  I'm glad they are back streaming but I just wished all the leaches didn't get their cut.  As usual, broadcasters get screwed over and over again.  The DMCA is a HORRIBLE piece of legislation.
