kool am gold
« on: September 11, 2011, 11:54:47 AM »

Anyone remember this AM rocker which sydicated its programs out, heard it in Reno. Whats on that frequency now? Is that format anywhere, 50's rock, besides Sirius. We had it in Chicago for awhile, real oldies 1690, featuring disc jockey legends Tommy Edwards, Larry Lujack, Jerry G Bishop, and Ron Brittain. I've seen format come & go in New Orleans, Orlando, Tampa, Las Vegas, & Philadelphia. Our travels took us to those areas. I knew KOOL FM stayed, but not with same playlist.

Still with an east valley null at night.

Last time I was in the Lake Tahoe area I listened to "The River" (KOVR IIRC) on 103.7.  They played a modest selection of 50's RnR which seems to ramp up during the "Hot Nights" event in Reno.

Great little station but they don't have an Internet stream.   Sad

I first heard "Kool Gold" in, of all places, Kansas City, Missouri, and yes, it was KOOL in Phoenix putting in a smokin' signal into KC every night.
Loved it, and dug it even more when Satellite Music Network offered it nationwide. I moved to Phoenix in 1993 and got to enjoy it for a few years before Salem bought it.
KOOL AM had a very talented and knowledgeable staff.

One omission: it was 1986 when I heard KOOL Gold from KC. I don't know how long they'd been doing the format at that time. I was living in California, but rarely got KOOL from there due to local and regional interference.
