pattiwacki...it all depends where you live.  I live downtown on Central, where it really hasn't been that extreme, for whatever reason.  So when I see a national headline saying, "Arizona Recovering From Massive Dust Storms" I gotta laugh!  Yes, it's just like Katrina around here, CNN!  We've all been evacuated due to these haboobs and we're all living in FEMA trailers now.
Here's an idea...maybe the media just likes to use the word Ha-BOOB!!!

Apparently, we have bigger haboobs in Ahwatukee than you folks downtown have. Grin

Are there any haboobs bigger than Mac 'n Gaydos?  Cheesy  Wonder if that reporterette was able to get all the leaves out of her pool by now?  Not since Aunt Carlos' show was booted off the ASU kiddie bus a while back have Nurse Jeff and I had such a laugh out of 92~Three!

Remember when someone painted a swastika on The Bunker's front door? Edith asked "I wonder why they call it a swastika?" Archie answered " Well LOOK at it Edith, what the He!! else are ya  gonna call it?!?!" What I saw in Ahwatukee, was no doubt about it a HABOOB. Then I saw another one a few weeks later. Since then we've had a couple  of dust storms, but those first two were HABOOBS for sure. Doc's invoking the name of Liz H. gave me an idea though, if the term haboob originally referred to Saharan occurrences, maybe we should call them HABIBS in Phoenix.
