Hey! They're releasing the numbers for Citadel again!

Interesting. WQUT is back to No. 2, while despite the emergence of the Tea Party and outrage at Obama during the summer in a conservative area, talk radio is really struggling (according to overall numbers) this summer.

While I realize sports talk usually takes a hit in the summer and political talk rises in the fall during election season, I was surprised that the numbers seemed to be lower than ever. I also was surprised that WFHG was even with WJCW, which is not unprecedented (it's happened before) but with WJCW's superior talk lineup you would think they'd be able to do better.

I don't think this has anything to do with AM or FM. I can't even get WFHG-FM on most of the radios I own in Johnson City. In the population center of the metro area, WJCW-AM has a better signal.

In another book I do expect WJCW to be ranked higher, but I think this bears looking into. One of the things I've noticed is that the talk programming in the area really is OLD. Just listen to Quaintance's theme song, or look at the picture of Swan and Hogan on WJCW's website.

Even sports talk, which tends to be a younger man's game, has Bill Meade pushing 60 and Rader and Hawkins are pushing 50.

The thought here is that talk could be doing better, but it's the same old same old.

Any word on when WFHG is planning to move to 92.9?
