They've fought off bigger competitors before (Love 98 and Spirit 102.3).

While I have no doubt KXOJ will be just fine, it is perhaps worth clarifying that the way it looks from here:

The owner of Love 98 was made a financial offer he just couldn't refuse

and

Spirit 102.3 made almost, but not quite, enough money for Cox to keep 'em going.

I know several disgruntled current KXOJ listeners who were Spirit listeners and felt their 102.3 was better.  Several people isn't a 6-county survey, but I still suspect they aren't the only ones.  At least in the ratings, I think Spirit WAS hurting KXOJ...  to the benefit of KRAV.

Noted. But back to the point at hand, 103.7 is anonymous to the majority of Tulsa listeners. Is it really possible for a satellite-fed rim-shot station to steal enough listeners from a heritage station to make it an issue?

Touche.   Smiley  I was responding more to the "KXOJ listeners are fiercely loyal."

I don't think my seek has recently been stopping on 103.7...  so it 100 kw 98.5 and 50 kw 102.3 couldn't take them down...  I agree with your assessment.

...I remember a time when 100.9 was considered a rim-shot signal!

where is this 103.7 frequency broadcasting from and what is its city of license?  I can't find it anywhere.  Call letters?

It's KOCD Okemah, 72kW at 925 feet. The reason you couldn't find it if you looked at Radio-Locator, for example, is that they applied to remain silent due to an impending sale back in June.

Until KOCD gains R-L status again here's the map showing the 60dBu contour, which touches neither Oklahoma City or Tulsa: http://maps.google.com/?q=http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/contourplot.kml?gmap=2%26appid=1426943%26call=KOCD%26freq=103.7%26contour=60%26city=OKEMAH%26state=OK

Changed the call letters?  There's no indication of that in FCC records.

The station was owned by Senator LeBlance out of Harshorne, tranny and stick were in Okemah and they were studioing out of, can't remeber the name of the town, but it was on I-40 just east of OKC.

I think most of the airstaff was voicetracking from home studios. Wasn't KOCD originally licensed to Wilburton or somewhere? And then moved to rim-shot OKC and Tulsa? After moving, they were Smooth Jazz and then moved to a more straight-ahead AC catering to Tulsa (maybe in an attempt to get KBEZ's listeners after they became "Bob FM"). The music wasn't bad, but the talent was not so good. Mainly because everyone sounded horribly voicetracked. They were also Tulsa's home to Broken Arrow football (oddly enough) and were on the Radio Oklahoma Network using KOTV updates (even though they are geographically much closer to OKC).
