I'd vote for copying KONO or KLUV - both are very highly rated in nearby cities, whose demographics can't be all that different from Houston.

Or CBS could just tweak Mix 96.5 and just flip Hot 95.7 to urban by keeping the same name and going right after The Box.

Even though it wont happen anytime soon, this sounds more like a smarter move. All they have to do is tweak Mix to a more top-40 type of sound.

Why wouldn't CBS do a Urban in Houston? As CBS has a Urban in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Washington D.C. plus 5 Rhythmic/CHR's. I just see that Radio One owns both the Urban and Urban AC.

Another option would be to take Mix 96.5 the AC route and go up with KODA.

I only say they wouldn't do it because they are so blind to the fact that they have almost everything in place to do it. It would be a smart move. Mix already sounds almost like a CHR (I heard LMFAO's Party Rock air on Mix this morning). Might as well tweak it to go head-to-head against KRBE and tweak Hot to sound more Urban then it almost is. My opinion.

That's what I'd do.  KODA is sitting on 2 million cume, totally unchallenged, doing a format that advertisers love.

The answer is KK:  Kidd Kraddick is what happened.

He's loved in Dallas bc 25+ year heritage, and works in small markets due to lack of competition.  Put him toe to toe with the big boys, and you see the result.

The Mix is now at a 2.2, the lowest numbers in the station's history.  At a time when Hot AC's around the country are doing gangbusters in PPM,Why has the Mix failed so terribly? How did this happen and is it fixable, or does CBS need to find another format for 96.5?  Any thoughts?

KNRJ The Energy is back in Houston, at it's original location 96.5!!!

Hey 96.1 in San Antonio was a Top 40 station in the mid 80s to early 90s, they went Rock, then Urban AC, and back to Top 40 since 1998.

98.9 was Oldies in Austin during the late 80s and now Oldies is back on that frequency.

So Mix should revert back to Energy all they would have to do is add commercials and djs to their 95.7 HD2 signal and simulcast that on 96.5.

Problem is KONO is owned by COX, KHMX is owned by CBS. Why would they simulcast a competitor's station?  If they are going to go the Oldies route, why not Scott Shannon's True Oldies.  However I think KILT AM/FM would be a better fit for that.

CBS had this same problem in Pittsburgh when they brought back B 94 and had sister station Star 100.7 which is Hot AC. B 94 couldn't find it the second time around. So Star is currently Hot AC and 93.7 is sports talk. I doubt CBS would do FM sports in Houston or would they? For what its worth anything could happen but I agree that CBS should tweak both Hot and Mix.
