KKGO Los Angeles

I'm surprised that no one on this board has mentioned that KKGO Los Angeles made another climb in this month's PPM and is up almost a full ratings point since this time last year.

Sean Ross claims its due to a shift back towards currents and recurrents and away from a heavy gold rotation.  Is this true or does the surge in popularity in Country this year mean that Country is becoming a very viable format in Los Angeles again?

I just saw this topic, and as a country listener in Los Angeles, thought I would chime in.

Of course, KZLA 93.9 was THE station for Los Angeles for years...then along came KIKF 94.3 in the nineties, so you had two country stations next to each other on the dial.  You could switch between them, to see what was playing, avoid commercials, etc.  I would guess that diminished ratings of both over the years, until KIKF bit the dust.   When KZLA was flipped, country listeners I know were really upset.  You couldn't hear a country music unless you were South of Downtown LA and might pick up KFRG out in the Inland Empire.

I made the switch the XM Radio, which I still have....But I listen to KKGO off and on.....they have changed the format in the past year, and it is more listenable.   

Also, in the past couple years, there seems to be even more Spanish stations on FM.   I bet some of the English language listeners that tired of the same continuous Rihanna, Adele, Beyonce, Bruno Mars playlists on AMP, KIIS, MYFM, etc might have shown up on KKGO.

Anytime I see 25-54 rankings for LA KKGO always does poorly. Plus their 6+ numbers are slowly on the decline as well. Still for an independent owner like that I think country is their best option.

I enjoy the KKGO-HD3 classic country web-stream very much. I suspect that Tanya has the most input into the music selection as it is very comprehensive. They are a good alternative listening choice for my other fav, WBZI, Xenia at myclassiccountry.com.

The KKGO HD2 channel, also streamed is their sister station KMZT and is genuine classical music. I even tune that one in for relaxing music in the mornings.
