92.7/94.3 flip to Tropical Oldies
« on: November 21, 2005, 08:45:09 AM »

I thought something was up when I heard "Mega Clasica" liners on 94.3 Saturday, and now DCRTV is reporting that the 92.7/94.3 combo has dropped its new music to focus on classic hits.  This leaves 99.1 as the only FM in the DC area targeting a younger Spanish-speaking audience.

I think 92.7/94.3 will be flipped entirely soon anyway.

I hope so because it's a waste of two signals.  The 92.7 frequency was a local station serving Southern MD and as a Spanish Language station it's not serving anyone local.  The Spanish population is mostly in NOVA and not in the 92.7 city grade contour.  I guess I can say the same thing for 99.1 though, as they completely gave up Baltimore for moderate success in DC.  I still think that Infinity should have flipped 94.7, which has a great signal into the Spanish/Latino areas of NOVA, and fixed 99.1 to bring up the DC numbers and retain the Baltimore numbers.  Classic Rock seems to be a dying format anyway.
