That little 100KW station in Crestview & the FCC...
« on: November 16, 2011, 02:22:40 PM »

It looks like they are looking for user's input as their FCC license is up for renewal in Jan. I give them 4 out of 5 stars because this is one of the last mom and pop stations and it would be a sad moment to see them go. I'd suggest a switch in formats as we are now flooded with country stations but, they serve the community WELL.

I hear PSA's done by (probably their GM)

I've got a complaint.  Not enough Johnny Cash and Hank Sr.  Where's Willy Nelson?  I can't even remember them playing any David Allen Coe (and Coe's even coming to town in a month or so, should be promoting the hell out of him!)  Jimmy better straighten up or I'll raise hell.  I might even change the channel for a few minutes when he spins some song I don't like.

WTF is this post for?  WAAZ super-serves Crestview better than anyone could believe.  They have the 100kw signal so people living in Crestview can continue to listen to their hometown radio station while they drive (up to) 75+ miles from their hometown.  There will be no objections to the license renewal... if someone does decide to object to the renewal I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul that they'll be goin' strait to hell... just like my momma said, I'm goin' strait to hell.
Go complain about every other radio station in the FWB market (99 Rock does their job, leave them alone unless you are offended by all the pot jokes... good old Wolfie just can't seem to go very long without cracking one since the cancer got to him)

Now with WJSB (the forgotten AM 1050) just simulcasting WAAZ for the past decade or so... I don't know.  Now that I don't even own an AM only radio any more... that could be up for debate.  But I ASSuME that Jimmy's working to get him a nice little 250 watt FM translator to offer his audience something different with WJSB (that is the fad now you know.)  I have no knowledge or proof of this, but it just makes cents.

Tibbs,

"Our license is up for renewal.. please come to our studios at..forgotten address, crestview, fl and fill out a report about how well we are doing" forgot the rest.

I know it's first ave..

The purpose for this discussion is if they don't get their license renewed, what will happen to them? This WOULD be an end of an era.

I thought they were building a brand new place with real stereo equipment and automation... were now in almost 2012.
I love 99 rock, they sound like they used to be home grown before Crum bought them out. I'd love to step back to their hayday and hear them..if they were ever a mom & pop. Despite rock isn't my fav type of music.I can imagine what they be like if CC bought em.. "99 Rock..an IHEART radio station playing 25 of the same songs"

...Or they would sound like TK101. Not a huge difference between the two musically. Both execute the mainstream rock format adequately.

The purpose for this discussion is if they don't get their license renewed, what will happen to them? This WOULD be an end of an era.

Every single mother loving radio station in the USA does this every (how many?) years.  Nothing ever happens to any of them!  License would get renewed even if they were playing Howard Stern in the morning and unedited gangster rap from Midnight till 4 AM!  Heck, they could even give me the board to play some XXX rated David Allen Coe songs after midnight and still get the license renewed.

Tech Nick Al It E.  They (WAZZ) just don't hide the "official" on-air notice as well as Corporate Radio stations do.  The fact that you even heard the notice at all proves that WAAZ is doing business in the "spirit of the law".  Isn't this notice usually buried in the stations sign-off?

And if something god awful happened and the license was not renewed and they lost all their appeals it would result in a flood of applications to change frequencies or increase facilities for adjacent and co-channel stations nearby that desperately want some of WAAZ's bandwidth.
No way this would happen.  CCENG and Tibbs have already shown their love for Crestview and would step up and fix things if Jimmy and his people fell down on the job.

Dang, I'm amped up today ain't I?  Maybe I should crawl back into my hidey hole and keep working on this beard.

CCENG -- post might outta readed "BAD operator sitting by"///

Poledo - Damn straight --- if JW needs anything, I'd be there...and would be able to do 1% of what he can do. Thankfully I'd have CCENG right in there fixing all my mistakes. But, I'd try my best to help any way I could. I'd even forgo the gin in respect to Jimmy. Wait, I already forgoed
the gin....I need the beach. And it's not even cold in Nashville, yet.
