102.3 W272BY Cincinnati On the Air.
« on: November 16, 2011, 04:28:04 PM »

Maybe this is news just to me, but WNLT's first translator is on the air from a vertical directional yagi from that building with the two large towers on the roof that WAIF 88.3 transmits from.

I may have noticed this a bit earlier, but must have disregard this as I just assumed it was WKLN, 102.3 in Wilmington, also relaying K-Love.
BTW, I have never heard a legal ID from WKLN. It seems to be a 100% copy of WNLT. http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=wkln&sr=Y&s=C&x=8&y=5

The W272BY signal is really awful, especially downtown. Up the Cut-in-the-Hill in KY, it was steady until the skyline disappears, then it's noisy. Maybe the signal has not yet been cranked up yet. I went behind the yagi, towards the east of the new signal's tower for two blocks, and easily found picket fences in the supposedly deep null towards the SE area within sight of the tower. Heading west towards University Hospital, the signal was better then WNLT for a few blocks, then it sucked again.

When is the WNLT CP ever going to be built out from the old 94.1 tower anyway?

If the CP ever gets built for WNLT, then maybe this 102.3 translator is going to be the new Air-1 translator since EMF gave their W264BW 100.7 Norwood signal to WEBN HD2.

I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, that the roof of the old hotel where WAIF is located was the original WKRC transmitter site.

The I.D.'s used to say "...with towers atop the Hotel Alms..."

The former WAIF studios were where WKRC-AM transmitters were, at the Hotel Alms. I heard that the building was disgusting, especially when WAIF was in the basement.

The old WAIF studios were a mess. I've heard stories over the years that they were trashed and vandalized several times. The tower and transmitter is still used for the station.

You might want to listen to 104.3 as of this evening they seem stronger and 90.1 is off the air so they are making the switch.
