Will CC let small market stations on iheart?
« on: December 06, 2011, 04:56:37 PM »

Now that Cumulus, KLOVE, and several others are now on iheart. Will CC entertain the idea of other stations on their stream.

Think about it... your station on iheart in exchange for a couple of barter spots a day.

Would they allow it in Non CC markets.

I think it would be a win win for all. CC can sell national advertisers on additional stations, and all stations will have a common platform.

It was run up the chain to the regional programmer, and then approved by the hired consultant. Did I miss someone that wasn't on the memo"

It depends.  Keep in mind that at the end of the day, it may be a common platform, but it's owned by Clear Channel.  That's very different from being on a common platform like FM that's common property.

Also, how much clutter can a platform handle?  How many stations, all playing the same music, do they really want?  A lot of these small market stations are already carrying dayparts from other markets, so what's unique about their stream?

Now that CC has fired the first salvo, CBS could be thinking that this may be something they'd want to try, and see how many other OTA companies they can attract to radio.com.  They just lost AOL as a streaming partner to Slacker.  That knocked them down in the ratings from #2 to #3.  This puts them even further in the hole.

But it depends on if they feel it's worth it to combine forces to beat Pandora.  If that's the game, then it makes sense.

It seems to me we were suggesting something like this a while ago.  It's been my opinion that Cumulus isn't interested in the internet, and was looking for a way to piggy back on someone else so they didn't have to invest in it.  This fits with their strategy perfectly.  But if you're CBS, I think you're pretty pissed.
