What Would You Do???
« on: December 07, 2011, 11:41:03 PM »

Let's get specific now. Here is the scenario. You have the opportunity to own/operate/program an FM radio station in Garden City, Kansas. Considering EVERYTHING (except what YOUR favorite kind of music is), what would you program? Would it be strictly music? Would it be strictly talk? Would it be strictly agriculture? Would it be strictly news? Would it be a little of each? If it were music, what kind of music?

Tell me what YOU would do...

If I started a radio station in Great Bend, it would be a Rhythmic leaning CHR station modeled after KYLD(WiLD 94.9) in San Francisco!

I do appreciate the input. Is there a real reason to "RUN," etc? I genuinely want to know if this move is a bad idea or not.

Live in Garden City? I don't think there is much to think about there. Plenty of signals, lots of different programming, so I would look at the ethnic market and figure out what they need, either spanish or Viet

Country is already established.  Here's what I would do - Broad-based, day-parted bright AC...with interactive morning show.  Have everybody that is anybody pay a visit to the show to anytime you can.   Let 'em talk about their civic groups, chili feeds, fundraisers.  Local News 1x per hour in mornings.  (Scott Roberts Virtual News Center).  Weather...big deal around the clock.

Find regional talent to voice track all other dayparts, except maybe PM drive.

Local news in PM Drive too.  Choose a network provider (Fox or other) for :60 updates around the clock.

Library would be slow rotation AC currents with a big slice of 80s...and smaller slices of the best of the 70s and 90s...with one exception.

Day-part the very best of the best Hot AC current titles to rotate 1X per hour starting at 3pm....then rotate a wider Hot AC recurrent category 2X per hour from 6p-Midnight.

In a part of the country where men are covered, lean female.  You'll still get some men primarily because of the variety of your gold categories.  Stay away from the traditional AC gold mix and shoot for a fun, up-tempo base library.

Don't be cheesy with the brand...be careful with it, and come up with something that women can latch on to.  I've got some ideas, but it'll cost you.  (It's America after all...)

Businesses will love you.  Moms will listen with their kids in the car.

I've not been drinking.
