Is the HD2 of 106.1 now Russian? I thought it was The Beat?

Why are the HD formats in this city so bad compared to other places? Don't the same companies own the stations in other towns. Why do we get the slop?

Yes, KBKS's HD2 switched to Russian earlier this month. I know nothing about where the service is based or the meaning of the DJ patter, so I don't know if any timely or live content is offered.
I'm sure there's a reason why CC chose to drop The Beat rather than put the Russian service on HD3. (Better fidelity? The audio on the Russian service is pretty clean.)
Wonder if the time is being sold to a third party.
Since HD isn't attracting many listeners, maybe that'll be a trend: brokered HD programming.

I would not be surprised if the Russian service is being paid by a third party somewhere in the Seattle community. It's a snazzy way to go in lieu of setting up an SCA sub-carrier service. With SCA, the listener needs to buy or be given a special radio that only receives that sub-channel station. With HD, the audience would be greatly expanded, and the listener would have a multitude of choices in the market along with the Russian service.
