Alternative or Country to reappear in NYC
« on: December 31, 2011, 03:47:41 PM »

Anyone think that if 101.9 decides to flip they'll flip either back to Alternative Rock or to Country? With the sale of BLS do you think that they'll switch to country or alternative? 103.5 KTU do you think they will go back to leaning more dance to protect Z or flip to Alternative as Radio 103.5 like their sister station Radio 104.5 in Philly? Do you thihk that 105.1 will flip to Alternative as Radio 105.1?

New York is not a rock town unfortunately. It's too bad, you're stuck with WAXQ or one of the subarban stations. As for country, do we really have to start another one of those stupid why no country in NYC threads again?  Angry

With the way things are going, you'll probably see a dance station come 2012.

The EDM movement is really taking off.  DJ's are now achieving "rock star" status.  Stations such as 92.3 Now have become more dance leaning in their CHR presentation.  The BIGGER question, should a dance station cater to the current EDM trends?  Or should it sound like Pulse 87 did?

That is the "conflict"

NEWS will stay on 101.9.

How long will Merlin's cash flow hold out?  FM News 101.1 in Chicago isn't doing well either and Merlin just purchased 106.9 in Philadelphia, which means soon there will be FM News 106.9 just down the NJ Tpke.

Are CBS' all-news stations in NY, Chicago and Philly having nightmares about Merlin?  I doubt it! Smiley

We don't need a Dance Station KTU has that covered or at least should. 101.9 hasn't gone anywhere at all. AM is static and that's where talk & sports belongs on. FM is for music because it's sound is crystal clear audio.

I think I told you this once XCountry, 'KTU is NOT a dance station.  Not by our brand whatsoever.  They may play rhythmic music but that's not what the true dance fans are listening to.

Based on what I had mentioned, a dance station seems to be the most likely case. But if you do get a country station I am certainly not hating on you for it Smiley

-WEMP won't be abandoning it's news format anytime soon. Merlin recently invested in more marketing for the station.
-The fate of WBLS after bankruptcy filings from Inner City may be uncertain but a format change won't go without a protest. The station is a legendary
African American outlet and it's demize is unlikely.
-WKTU won't be doing any tweaking. They're doing exceptionally well in the ratings just as they are.
-Why do you pick WWPR as a station as a candidate for an alternative rock station?

Power 105 is there to keep 106.7 Lite FM at #1 and take away from Hot 97, why would you flip it to Country or Sports? Same with KTU, they're a great Rhythmic CHR, why flip?

Q104.3 isn't going to active or mainstream rock either, if anything they might add more 90s stuff and drop most 70s but that's about it... if 101.9 FM News fails, it will not flip back to rock either Wink

Does the fact that a dance format can't make any money figure into this discussion?
