I watched the movie straight through!! No interruptions! IT WAS GREAT!!
Was there any pieces that were edited out the TV movie from the big screen?
Once again, great movie.
I noticed the opening section was trimmed down quite a bit- Hal Fryer was a business acquaintance of my dad's and I was pleasantly surprised to see him on the screen- his part was entirely gone. I might have watched this a lot.

I recall the version at the IMAX had an extended scene where they went through numerous jingles...was that in the TV version?

When I started in radio in 1967, most broadcast equipment used tube technology, all recorded music was played from records on a turntable by live DJ's, there was no satellite delivery...and radio was fun.

WFYI=87 minutes of air time, so somethings had to go. Thought the TV version was a better story (not in the sense of fiction) but the IMax version a better documentary. Lots more than Hal Frier was cut. The Bill Shirk 5 "secret" things to do, though missing on the WFYI version, is one good reason for seeing the Imax version.
Bill is a clever guy and I would give $500 to know what he used as blackmail to get Fulton to edit out this "secrets".
Let's see what June or July brings.

Bobby,
I talk to Shirk weekly. Next time you are in Indy I am sure he would be happy to tell you in person. We have been over this personally in the past and it is amazing that even his current educational Fm in Lebanon covering not all of the county routinely ties WNDE or WGNR. For years he has used this absent money to promote and simply put his best foot forward. Interestingly enough, he has a degree from Ball State to be a teacher of all things. Most who worked for him might think he would slap the little scugs around and teach them a lot but was not so.
I think a better place for an extended version of the show would be WIPB Muncie.
They have better cable coverage than WFYI and their signal covers into Ohio. I know they are not always getting their teleprompters in a wad about airing local shows versus national shows as they are not so reliant on income from business but income from viewers. The program would be perfect there. Better keep the Shirk segment cause he is from Muncie. Probably could add to it. This is one of the best shows I have ever seen that covers all the topics except the pig story. The pig story is the only thing missing before we can be called home to heaven in my opinion. I digress.

a friend of mine recorded the show for me off wfyi and i watched it last night. while the credits were running, i felt a little sad, because i know how
Crappy
radio has gotten over the past few years.
Great Documentary!
in fact it is the best one i've seen in years!
i know the premise was about the battle between wife & nap & wibc
BUT they were not the only stations in town
they did pay tribute to WXLW and WNDE which was GREAT but wgee made a run as a top 40 albeit "Lame" on the FM dial around 69' or 70' and were not mentioned, what was WFBM doing at the time? WIRE (strong ratings as a country station) along with the REST of the radio landscape, maybe it got chopped for tv, BUT a few minutes would have been cool on the "Other" stations too it would have given some perspective. WLS/WCFL/CKLW were listened to in the market and their impact whould have been great also.
having said that, i REALLY enjoyed the movie, and hats off to everyone who had a hand in it.
