Thoughts On The New 102

Since WDOK has made a huge overhaul on their format and line-up, I'm wondering what are some thoughts on the new station. 

I personally think it's better now that Delilah is gone and the music seems to be more upbeat as well.  I do think they should add more variety and cut back on some of the songs.

I do miss Nancy and Terry as of Friday, but glad Trapper, Jim and Desiray are still there, and I think Jen will do a great job on mornings.

The music has been surprising so far too.  I heard Boston's "More Than A Feeling" earlier this afternoon.  It had a "Lake" feel to it with that song playing.  WDOK has really come a long way from "Soft Favorites."

As I had said before in another post, 102 is basically now an "80s, 90s, and now" Mainstream AC with some "soft" leanings, while Q 104 is a "2K and today" Hot AC/Adult Top 40 outlet.

Look at it this way...on a 1-10 AC scale with "The Wave" being 1 (Smooth/Soft) and Q being 10 (Hot with some Top 40), WDOK is a 4 (maybe 5).

Sort of sound like WSNY here in Columbus. They have a sister Hot AC that sound more modern hits than Adult top 40 and 70's-90's classic hits channel here.

To my ears...sounds alot like the Old 102.  Not enough of a difference to be making big noise about.   More of a marketing change, than an actual format change.  "Meet the new boss...same as the old boss."

I agree. I don't think there is a major huge difference. But, I do see that the music has indeed been spiced up alittle...You can tell it more when you actually look at a playlist. The past favorites have seen some new adds, and there are quite a few more recurrents from the past couple years. I even saw Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" on their playlist...I'm pretty sure that wasn't part of the old WDOK sound.

Overall, though, my thoughts...I like the station. I hate to see that Nancy's contract wasn't renewed. As far as Delilah, I'm indifferent. Some people (tons of women) love her. I can even enjoy the program...the music is pretty good. But, it isn't live and local. Perhaps the regular ear doesn't care where entertainment is coming from, but most radio people understand the true appreciation of live and local programming.

My thoughts on New102 are still forming...as we are still waiting on the rest of the lineup...but right now I feel like the station is heading in a good direction overall.

With the exception of a few songs here and there it seems like pretty much the same songs they have played before. Last night during their 'You be the music boss' segment (Did they get that idea from The Lake?), I did hear Second Chance by: Shinedown.  With WDOK no longer carrying Delilah will Cleveland no longer have a Delilah affiliate?

Well, the Wave isn't picking her up, and that's the only station her show would semi-fit in at.

So unless DOK has a change of heart (meaning the "sappy love song" crowd raises enough of a stink), Delilah is persona non grata in C-Town.

If most of the talent from Q moves to WDO... er, "New (Fresh?) 102," what happens to Q then? Blow that one up for a jockless format - or go with a pure CHR format to combat WAKS?

Either way, it will save money for CBS.

I'm not in Cleveland, but am familiar with the AC format and have a pretty good idea of what a lot of them sound like.  WDOK is still what I'd call traditional AC.  Still pretty safe.  Compare it even to stations like WGRR in Cincinnati or WSNY in Columbus, both of which play more "new" music. 

They're playing 6 "current" songs for the AC format.  Not that 'new.'
