Interesting though that a lot of those stations are playing a re-mixed version of that Gotye tune....which has been #1 on WBWC's top 5 list for a long time.  The rest of that Gotye album is very good too btw.  Didn't Q104 play Mumford and Sons?

I believe they used to play "Little Lion Man," but not anymore.  It's one of those songs there that came and went on Q.

Speaking of WDOK and The Wave, I just noticed on 107.3's FB page that Nancy Alden is going to fill in on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10AM to 2PM.  Perhaps this is the start of possibly more gigs for her at the station.

WDOK sure has evolved since the days of playing elevator music. There is a commercial for WDOK from April 1989 in this video from WKYC. Fast-forward to about :42 to get to the WDOK commercial.

Neat little ad from back in the day for WDOK.

The stuff that they played then (Striesand, Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Mathis) is the kind of thing heard today on...umm...WLEC 1450 in Sandusky.

The following home videos shot in 1989 include audio from WDOK and the songs they played are just like what they play today on the previously mentioned WLEC 1450:

WDOK had a great format back then, and perfect for the landscape at the time.

WQAL was still easy listening, WNWV was a Satellite version of The Wave, WMJI was still a gold-based AC, and WLTF (now WHLK) was a Contemporary-based AC.

Things have changed a lot since.  WDOK is WAY different now after evolving several times since '89.

I will say WDOK was magical and cool back in the 90's.  From Soft Favorites to Soft Rock, they've managed to stay successful no matter who's operating the station.  Does anyone remember they had a bear as a mascot briefly?

Exactly when did WDOK 'come out of the elevator'? Wasn't it sometime in 1987? IIRC, WQAL came out of the elevator in 1990.

It was in 1987, the same year Art Modell and Al Lerner sold the station to Tom Embrescia, Tom Wilson and Larry Pollock.  Sue Wilson soon came aboard as Program Director.

BTW, I've been listening to 102 lately and I've been hearing more 2000's and today songs, even 1990's.  No 1980's and even '70s unless I've been listening at the wrong times.  They are sounding more and more like what Q104 was a few years back.

I noticed that on Saturday, too. I heard songs all from about 1997 to currents. I also heard Rhianna's 'We Found Love' twice less than 3 hours apart. Can't they add more songs to their playlist so there isn't so much repetition? Also, I'm curious to know just how many songs are being played on both WDOK and WQAL.
