Delilah gone from My 102.5
« on: January 16, 2012, 06:36:36 PM »

My 102.5 has dropped Delilah.  Aaron Rogers (voicetracking from Madison, WI) has replaced her.

Great news!

Well,...(southern prefix)...I said,...well, well, well,...smart move #2 has actually occurred!  Smart move #2, since changing the format, that is.  Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead.  However, Cheap Move #1 has also occurred; a Voice Tracker, instead of a human!  Yeah,...their Nights will go up...because there is music, instead of Sap Stories.  No dout that it was a contract issue.
If they are just using VT for now, I understand, but a live "Nighter" would be brillant!
Collectively,...still alotta work to be done for both MY & MAGIC!

I really, highly doubt that they'll do anything live at night.  93.7 and 98.1 are the only live stations at night.  93.3 used to be.

As for 102.5, it sounds like they are not playing any pre-90s music now, at least at night.  It seems like they are playing more fresh/new/current music too.  January has definitely been their best month so far for adding new music.

Yep! Was listening tonight on the way back from Myrtle Beach and was pleasantly surprised. They did a pretty good job of making Aaron Rogers sounding local. I actually thought it was someone local until I saw this thread. But yes, not a single 70s or 80s song that I heard on the way home (not that I mind some 80s in there).

On an offtopic note, the trip reinforced my feelings that The Planet is the worst rock station in the state. Rock 94.5 in Columbia was sounding pretty good and everything else I heard even in Florence and Myrtle Beach was at least "ok" and definately better than WTPT.

Yes, he does sound very good and local.  More so than Dave Kent (who is at WKSL/Raleigh), but he is not bad.
They sound the best tonight, IMO, that they have since they started - I wonder if they'll keep this sound all day, or just at night (some stations go more modern/aggressive at night).  This was what they sounded like for around 90 mins tonight:

Colbie Caillat- Brighter Than The Sun
Howie Day - Collide
Miley Cyrus - The Climb
Fray- Over My Head/Cable Car
Train - Meet Virginia
Adele - Set Fire To The Rain
U2 - Beautiful Day
Usher/Willi.I.Am - OMG
Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger
Coldplay - Violet Hill
P!nk - Raise Your Glass
Taylor Swift - Love Story
Lady Gaga - You & I
Killers - Mr. Brightside
Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling
Kid Rock - All Summer Long
Goo Goo Dolls - Slide
Gavin DeGraw - Not Over You
Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You
Daughtry - No Surprise
Adele - Someone Like You

In addition to the new Gavin DeGraw and Adele songs I've never heard them play locally, they played Usher/David Guetta's "Without You" and Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away", which are climbing up the AC/Hot AC charts.

I think WARQ in Columbia and WKZQ in MYB are great rock stations, much better and more 'polished' than The Planet.  WTPT is just terrible.

^ Following up on my last post, they are still playing the 80s music and are more conservative during the day than they apparently are going to be from 7pm-12am.  They still, of course, run the national premium choice Hot AC from 12am-5am.

Yep. Noticed the same thing. Haven't heard any 70s stuff though -- at least when I've listened. The closest I've heard to derailing back to traditional AC was "Open Arms". As much as Journey was a part of my days growing up, that particular song is deserving of the "soft" stuff that I don't think really belongs on Hot AC.

Still glad they ditched Delilah. It's at least a move in the right direction. When they were playing only 90s and newer last night, i thought maybe they were responding to Chuck by focusing primarily on newer hits.

Strangely, some Hot AC stations that play more older stuff still play Journey.  Not that I agree with it but they may have reason.  I'm looking forward to listening some tonight to hear what it sounds like again.

I like the way they sound at night.  Maybe they are testing to see how that musical approach works for them, maybe if it's positive they'll sound like that all day.  I was surprised at some of the stuff like "Violet Hill" and "Mr. Brightside."

I actually don't mind Journey. I loved them growing up - things like "Separate Ways" were among my favs growing up -- and certainly don't mind some 80s in the Hot AC mix. I guess just for some reason the song "Open Arms" seems to have more of a slow Magic feel to it almost as it it was a 70s song.

No biggie. I can take songs like that as long as the mix in general is upbeat and leaning 90s and 2000s.

Definately hope you're right about them testing the more aggressive mix at night.

Did they keep Delilah on 102.9? Heard they may be tweaking their format a bit.
