kdee now on 97.5
« on: January 22, 2012, 02:20:37 PM »

Their web site touts their new frequency and stronger signal. I picked it up in Rancho but it started to break up by Elk Grove. It is still LP but I could never get it at that distance before. In the house the Sony hd tuner picked it up ok with one signal bar. It does appear to be an upgrade.

ERP & HAAT is unchanged but the 97.5 frequency eliminates the co-channel interference with KWIN Modesto.  So you could consider it an upgrade.

They've also applied to move their antenna to 977 Arden Way.  No joke.

Comes in better now in Rancho Cordova but with no bars on the signal strength meter. The move to 977 Arden Way may give them better coverage in the downtown area while still covering Citrus Heights.

They also don't have to fight with co-channel KHHZ in Oroville.

I see that application.  It's great to see a LPFM putting themselves out there.

They'll never have a market grade signal across the Sacramento DMA but they're certainly making the best of what they have.

977 Arden Way, aka the old KROY building is a piece of Sacramento radio history in itself.  KDEE would transmit from the existing tower that presumably was used for KROY's STL dish to the tower on Kroy Way.

Too bad they aren't 97.7 anymore. Smiley

If memory serves, I remember a story that Don Imus who was morning man at KXOA at the time took one of their remote trucks and did his morning show in front of that location  just to bug KROY.

i've had a chance to listen to 97.5 for a few weeks now and it's definitely covering A LOT better on it's new frequency.  Sounds a bit like a college station but who likes talking about audio processing?
