97 Rock- live from Florida
« on: January 23, 2012, 12:59:35 PM »

Article in this morning's Buffalo News explaining Larry Norton's broadcasting from Florida.  I know it's been discussed from time to time and never knew the reason why.  Turns out he was taking care of his Father.   Smiley

I thought that this was pretty well known around town. I agree that timing is everything, but even ISDN has a little lag time - although FAR less than Skype or other Internet technologies. It makes comedy in particular tougher, and Larry doesn't have the same control of the show that he does when he's actually in the studio. Rob's reduced role is also not good news for the show. Sounds like it's winding down. It makes you wonder what direction Cumuless will go in next.

Larry sounds energized. In fact, there may be a bit of relief from always having to spew "the company line" about the Bills as he may be able to be more critical on the Monday mornings after games.

Not likely.  Without the Bills as their anchor, 97 isn't likely to tread down the sports talk path because it could get get pinched by WGR and 103 on the talk side of the field and WHTT and Jack on the music side of the field.  Maybe Brent Axe or Paul Peck joins the 97 line-up on Friday and Monday.  Men seeking sports talk will tend to listen to WGR and Shredd & Ragan.

The Bull did some nice work Monday with some guests to talk about the Stevie Johnson contract signing. He obviously has all his contacts from his days as the sideline reporter and it was good to see him utilize that and sprinkle the interviews into his afternoon show, which while it is music-based, does spend time talking sports and pop culture.

Turns out 97 Rock needed SOMEBODY live yesterday.  Wink  Out of boredom I was listening to hear if good 'ol Stairway to Heaven would be #1 on their Top 500 list.  The top 4 songs were never played!   It wasn't dead air, just various songs.  I did see a couple postings on their Facebook page from disgruntled listeners.  Maybe they were just testing to see if anyone was listening?   Huh

Just because they're a radio station doesn't mean they have to sound like one.
