Classic country WENU- 1410AM and ESPN Sports WMML 1230AM in Glens Falls will be off the air for about 2 weeks. The tower they share is being replaced in favor of a more rugged tower that can accomodate cellular telephone antennas at the top. This would most likely mean a new base has to be poured and new buildings put in place.(I believe the transmitters are now in bldgs right nexrt to the tower, not in the studio building). This is all at the mercy of the weather, it could tske longer with bad weather.

Can't be billing much of anything if they can be dark for 2 weeks. That cell phone gear will bring in more rent than what they bill for spots. WCBS went dark for 2 hours last week to replace the x-mitter. No time wasted there.

Your right spence, They both use syndicated programming, no local hosts, certainly at best a break even situation with both of them, not much overhead just power, syndication fees, some tx maintenance and a sale staff that sells along with their 3 FM's. By the way, it begins today 1/30/12. Probably a lot to be done, take out the old base, move the to tx's, and bldg out of the way, pour new bases for tower and probably 2 buildings, guy anchors, set new bldgs, and istallation of new tower and re-install of tx's, all of this in the middle of the winter.

I stand corrected, I don't listen to 1230, but enjoy 1410 when I am in the area.

Pamal has really been busy lately... possible format changes, restructuring, and now a tower upgrade/move in Glens Falls?

I think this tower upgrade has more to do with leasing space for some extra revenue, I don't think they would replace it otherwise. This would probably be easier for Verizon than trying to erect another tower with all of the planning board procedures. Generally if multiple users share a tower it is easier for approval.

Having spent some time in my youth listening to 1230 WBZA, it pains me to see what this station is now. I wonder what Jim Barnes is up to now?

I wasted some of my youth listening to 1410-WBZA! What are these possible format changes that a previous poster referenced?

I believe that the format changes are related to Pamal's Albany cluster. Jim Barnes, who I believe his real name (if it the same one) is Homer Charbonneau. He last worked in radio in Cobleskill and I believe he works now for Schoharie county.
