Bubba The Love Sponge was on Q-FM 96?!?  I know he was on 95.3 The Eagle here in Dayton and he lasted two years tops before they replaced him with a local jock and music.

Yeah I don't recall him ever being on QFM either. I'm not positive but I think BTLS might have been on WAZU at one point in time.

Tim Feran used to do some good ones on Columbus media. He dose very few these days on local Columbus media.

Tim Feran's radio columns were few and far between.  He used to do one or two detailed, interesting pieces on the changes in Columbus radio per year, complete with quotes from lots of local industry people. But that stopped 7-10 years ago.   As you point out, he does minimal media reporting now -- nor does anyone else at the Dispatch.  At least at some point Feran finally stopped referring to CHR/Top 40 as "rock."

I've done a lot of archive research on Columbus radio in years past.  The CJ had an active column with a local reporter from 1948 until their demise.  The Dispatch has a much more spotty record.  For example, I was reviewing 1955 looking for something.  The Dispatch didn't have a regular column at that time.  They carried mostly national wire service stories if they had any coverage of radio-tv at all.  In the late 50's, they started a column written by Joe Mills.  He continued until 64-65 and was promoted to the editorial page.  Another gentleman took over and covered until 66 or 67. From then until around 1975 or 76, the Dispatch again had no daily coverage. 

Two examples of stories not covered was Irwin Johnson's retirement in 1969 and when Bob Conners jumped ship from WTVN to WBNS in 1973.  The Dispatch had zip coverage of those two events. Cynthia Robbins had started some periodic coveage bout the time Conners returned to tvn in 76. 

As I recall, when David Jones was the Dispatch TV-Radio columnist he wrote a lot about radio.  I think that was circa late eighties.  It was interesting but ridiculously opinionated stuff, and often bush league.  E.g., once he called upon readers to leave dead fish at the doorsteps of Columbus radio stations to protest how bad Columbus radio was.   He was fired after he punched a guy who made what Jones considered a denigrating racially-motivated comment about his wife.

Remember Jones.  Don't remember the incident.  I believe before Jones it was Bud Wilkinson and Cynthia Robbins before Bud. 

If I recall, the CJ only had three.  Jo Reed, Sherry (Sheryl) Wood and David Drake.  Wood currently writes romance novels.

In 1997 when Bubba love sponge's contract was up at WFLZ in Tampa he came to Columbus and did an evening show on QFM 96. At the time Jacor Owned QFM and The Big Wazoo. The ratings at QFM with him on at the 10pm-1am slot had him below a 1 share so he was put on The Big Wazoo. QFM and the big wazoo were sold when Nationwide sold WNCI and WCOL so Jacor could have the strongest signals and the highest revenued stations in Columbus. CBS Radio did keep Bubba on the air for a while then he went back to Tampa.

I probably read about it in Columbus Monthly.  Now that the Dispatch has taken ownership of CM I have a feeling that there will be no more reporting or gossip about Dispatch internal affairs, and of course no substantive criticism of the paper or its owners.

 A former WNCI morning jock named Dave Ryan made what radio critic considered slanderous remarks  about his wife which made him almost clobber the dj. That Jock now work at KDWB a sister station to WNCI in St.Paul, Minn. I know they took Jones off the radio beat but I don't know about the termination.

Yes, yes, that sounds familiar...it was Ryan.  In fact, I recall now that Jones used to routinely slam the WNCI Morning Zoo, including Ryan.  No doubt that figured into the friction.  And yes, now that you mention it Jones may have just been removed as the TV-Radio critic, not fired.

He was never "in" Columbus.  But yes, he was on QFM96, then Wazoo.  (I remember him blathering about getting Buckeye BJ.  Premium Choice localization 16 years before there was Premium Choice!)

I read in yesterdays Dispatch that a former QFM96 employee is going to start working as a music director at The Blitz. Sort of makes you ask what's going to happen to Ronnie Hunter.

It's Bodhi.  Had forgotten about him.  I'm impressed the Dispatch would report something like this, given how little they've had about radio lately.  But maybe that's changing.  Of course the WCRS/X article is another example.
