Another format change @KFSD
« on: February 08, 2012, 11:26:15 AM »

Due to the sale of Astor's KCEO, 1450 KFSD will be re-branded 'Financial San Diego' and current KCEO programming
will be aired on 1450, as of 3-1-12. San Diego Radio Seoul programming is terminated; rumors of a possible deal with
KURS have been heard.

And oh boy a Korean station!! I would thing that a Filipino radio station would go over bigger than a Korean especially with the large Filipino community in SD. Why is it always Korean??

Sorry for the OT question, but...

What exactly *IS* a "PPM"?  And how does it know what stations people are listening to?

Why do IE stations, Sir David, have PPM (Personal People Meter) encoders?

Thank you!

Ontario is not in the IE market.

This station is encoded, as is common with stations on the fringe of PPM rated metros. Stations not in PPM markets can rent an encoder for a very low fee.

However, KSPA has very little usable (10 mV/m) signal in the EI or the LA market... but they encode anyway.

The Arbiton website, www.arbitron.com, has a complete explanation.

In brief, each station has a unique "masked" identifier code burst they broadcast many times each minute. People recruited by Arbitron to be on the PPM panel carry a Personal People Meter which "hears" and remembers moment by moment the time and station and then feeds this data to Arbitron.
