Limbaugh v. Huckabee in Chicago?
« on: February 09, 2012, 05:32:11 PM »

Well, Cumulus, which has already told its stations that it expects its syndication offerings to be cleared by its stations, has scheduled Mike Huckabee's new talk show for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. CT.  You know what WLS-AM airs in that time slot.  Would WLS risk offending Cumulus management by clearing Huckabee in another time period or would they succumb?

And if WLS drops Limbaugh and picks up Huckabee, would Rush make the obvious move to WIND or would Premiere have misgivings about their flagship show moving from a 50kw to a 5kw (not to mention delaying or dropping their Glenn Beck)?  Or would WGN--which has not aired a long-form national program on weekdays since they dumped Mutual decades ago and is trying to mend fences after Randy Michaels and Pig Virus' attempt to remold the station as another WLW--take on Limbaugh, say to hell with tradition and go with the ratings?

I'd be shocked if WLS dropped Limbaugh, but Cumulus has been known to do the unexpected.

KSFO the Cumulus O&O in San Francisco dumped Rush on New Years Week and Rush went to KKSF 910 AM the CC station in SFO. Also Cumulus fired Gene Burns, Len Tillem and Gil Gross (sometimes on ABC Hourly News) on the other Cumulus O&O KGO and these talk hosts went CC's KKSF 910. Look at Cumulus O&O KGO-AM 810 its a Merlin Wannabe because they do all news the same way WEMP in NYC does the all-News format.

I like to know how many Cumulus O&O's went All-News using merlin Tactics besides KGO?

I'm going to guess Rush doesn't move from WLS or WABC, or even WOKI in Tennessee for the unproven Huckabee. Cumulus talkers that don't have Rush may be a different story, If I were going to guess, Huckabee goes to WIND.

Do you know that KSFO "dumped" Rush or is it possible that Premiere "took" Rush so they could put it on co-owned KKSF?

Assuming in the unlikely event WLS does drop Rush, what are the chances Randy puts him on his FM?

In Boston the incumbent Limbaugh affiliate (heritage AM talker WRKO) dumped him in favor of a succession of syndicated, local and brokered fare. El Rushbo went to a Clear Channel-owned rimshotter (WKOX) and has drawn marginal ratings. Granted, Boston was never a powerhouse market ratings-wise for Rush, but the transition appears to be survivable depending on the competitive situation. How much of a ratings draw is Rush in the Windy City, and are his demos really favorable for local revenues even with big ratings given his enormous license fee?

Actually, Newsbot, Clear Channel ended WRKO's contract with Limbaugh so that they could use that show, plus other Premiere properties (Beck, Sean Hannity) to form their new (originally named) "Rush Radio" (now just known as "Talk 1200") in Boston.
