FORMAT CHANGE @ WZPL
« on: February 09, 2012, 05:52:35 PM »

Paul Poteet says WZPL is changing formats and Dave Smiley will be talking about it in the AM. Anyone know what's up?

Tomorrow morning, they're changing to 80's Retro. I understand they're bringing back the "Indy's Apple" positioning.

How does this combo with My 107.9?

One's live/local and one's not?

Or maybe two's not?

Pretty interesting.  They have a video on their website of a 1989 ZPL TV commercial.  Pretty cool spot for it's time, actually.

how much of wzpl is live and how much is voicetracked?

LIVE: 5 hours (mornings) + 5 hours (afternoons) + 3 hours (nights) = 13 hours.

[I don't know if Nikki and Hunter are live, but I will give each the 'benefit of the doubt' and say they are live.]

SYNDICATED: 4 hours (Seacrest) + 2 hours (Iverson) = 6 hours.

VT or AUTOMATED: 5 hours (Overnights) = 5 hours.

With that supposition and those numbers, 13 out of 24 weekday hours are live (54.16%)

The 80's Retro change is one day (Friday Feb 10) only. Good to hear the WNAP call letters mentioned when they talked about ZPL's former competitors.

Why are they going with such a fad format?! What a joke.
