Once again, 92.3 Now is NOT going anywhere anytime soon.  And wpb1999, there must be a reason why you wanted no one to say "dance format" because quite honestly THAT would be the one format that would make sense to get on the air somewhere.  Taking my own personal bias out of it, Dance/EDM is what is riding hot right now in the mainstream culture in the country.  That can't be ignored.

It is simple..... dance music is limited.  There is really no such thing as a dance format.  Because you have to include Pop, top 40, CHR, hip hop, and rap in the "format". So, what is a stand-alone dance format, Tony?

You could say that will all formats though.  Look at all the pop artists that have done hip hop records.  What about all the rock singers who do things will pop records or hip hop records..  Heck even Country crossed over.

If this station flips, guarantee you that it will be an FM for WFAN or one of the news stations..perhaps WCBS 880..which would get Yankees games on the FM dial.

Definitely, it will be WFAN on 660 AM and 92.3 FM.  The Yankees' deal with WCBS actually expired last year but was extended through this season to coincide with the Mets' deal with WFAN, which also expires at the end of the 2012 season.  It's quite possible WFAN will let the Mets' deal expire and go with the Yankees in 2013.  By the time this all goes down, we'll know the fate of 92.3 Now-FM. Isn't this splitting hairs? Both WCBS and WFAN are owned by the same company, so it is entirely possible that switching the teams is an internal and strategic change, coordinated with the teams. Nobody is "letting the deal expire" as the deals are, at the end of the day, all with CBS.

"There is really no such thing as a dance format".  If I had a dollar for all the years I hear something like this, I'd be a trillionaire (man I wish that was the case because I would buy up a couple of radio stations, make them dance and prove you naysayers ALL WRONG!)

Okay, I'll entertain this.  Right now you are hearing a lot of the crossover from mainstream artists (mainly rhythmic such as Rihanna, Flo Rida, Pitbull, etc.) as they are collaborating with dance music DJ's/producers such as David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris just to name a few.  In that sense, though core fans may differ from this thinking, dance music has become part of the mainstream.

NOW, from our point of view, we have a lot of artists that are branded as dance such as Sylvia Tosun, Kim Sozzi, Lucas Prata, Wynter Gordon, Jes (it's okay if you don't know some of these names) that are very popular with those that follow dance (aka: the Pulse 87 FM audience).  Yet while their material has strong radio potential, with the exception of Brett on Z88.9 no one is covering this.  Yes you would need some of the commercial mainstream influence on such a station.  HOWEVER, you also add in these and other artists along with certain tracks that may be instrumental in nature but has strong appeal to the dance community (such as Avicii's "Levels").  Hip-hop (and we're talking the Hot 97 brand) won't fly for this.  Put a dance/rhythmic station like this in New York and it will be in the Top 5.  If it wasn't for the low dial location and weak antenna, Pulse 87 would have been in the top 5.

Limited?  FAR FROM IT.  I've mentioned vocal singers.  But THIS TIME AROUND, we also have a strong EDM culture consisting of DJ's that are "rockstars" of sorts such as Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Laidback Luke, Afrojack, etc.  With STRONG turnouts at events such as Electric Zoo, their productions can go into this format as well.  Then you have "dubstep" which is INSANELY popular amongst the college crowd yet has its own issues within the dance community.  Do you incorporate dubstep tracks into the format?  Or do you give a specialty show to it. The bigger question is...would you make this station stay on the current, or do you flash it back to older sounds (such as freestyle...which is what Pulse 87 did).

The format name would be "dance/rhythmic CHR".  None of the hip-hop aspect of CHR, none of the alternative rock (with the exception of Coldplay since Fedde LeGrand, another big DJ/producer, did a remixed version of "Paradise" that is HUGE right now).

I can keep going and going on this.

Better yet, I will be on DriveFX in the Hudson Valley tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 21st @ 7PM on 94.1/95.7 - use Tune In Radio for your phone).  Tune in if you want to know more.

Let me add to this argument....

WEEI, the sports station in Boston on 850AM, have started simulcasting on 93.7 FM not too long ago.  I'm asking over on the Boston board about the numbers, if it indeed is doing better than the former WMKK (Mike 93.7) and if people are beginning to think of 93.7 for WEEI instead of 850AM.

Should be interesting to find out.....

The same thing could be said for AC formats.  I swear sometimes I feel 106.7 Lite-Fm tweaked to Top 40 when I listen.

Just a quick clarification.  The Yankees are consistent winners each year and given the Mets' poor fortunes on and off the field, the Yankees will get higher ratings and bring in more ad revenue.  My thought is that the WFAN and CBS will not renew the Mets and let them go to another station, most likely WEPN, whether it's on 1050 AM or an FM signal.  CBS would then move the Yankees to WFAN. No doubt, CBS would like the Yankees on WFAN, and the Yankees would rather be there than on WCBS for the additional round the clock Yankee buzz with the Sports Talk audience if nothing else.

But I suspect CBS will also try to keep the Mets, just in case they finally get hot.( we haven't lost all hope have we??)

The question of which CBS station to put the Mets on probably depends more on whether FM News, WEMP, finally starts to gain some traction against WCBS-AM and WINS, and becomes a viable threat, and whether WEPN gets an FM signal.  If CBS is forced to switch 92.3 to Sports Talk, then WFAN-AM could carry the Yankees and WFAN-FM could carry the Mets.

No doubt, WEPN would also make a good effort to get either team, but if it's FM signal is as limited as its current AM signal then it will also need suburban affiliate stations to fill in the entire New York Market like the football Jets do.  For that reason, the Mets might rather stay with a full market signal and WABC and WOR might be interested if they will get a cume boost and a chance to make some extra money.

Our incarnation of the universe within the much grander multiverse is not expected to last anywhere near that long.

The Mets as a business are virtually bankrupt.  They have a bigger chance of closing up shop than getting hot.  They are expected to do worse this year than in previous years, and we all know how poor those years were.  I just don't see them being able to command any big radio contract.
