KFBK FM on 93.7

Why did CC choose 92.5 as the frequency to flip?  I get that My92.5 wasn't doing much.  It's a Class B full market signal with a transmitter in Northern Sacramento (not terrible far from the KFBK AM array) with considerable overlap in the 50dBu contour (yeah big words, guess what I did for part of my career).

Why not move the Jack format to that frequency and use 93.7 (a Class B1 station) to serve the market with KFBK-FM?

Jack does well in ratings and has been at 93.7 since 2005.  One of the frequency's most successful formats over the years.  What's the saying if it isn't broke?  And no way they'll touch 101.1.

I believe the idea was for 92.5 to compliment the AM bringing KFBK to people who wouldn't normally listen (i.e. the younger generation that didn't grow up listening to AM).  One could have speculated CC would have flipped 93.1 instead, but 92.5 puts a much better signal into downtown and the populated areas that KFBK really targets.  And the ratings on MY925 were not spectacular.

It makes sense in a way that 92.5 was once KFBK FM prior to KAER and KGBY, now coming full circle.

They treat their Sacramento cluster just like they do all the other markets they own in.  They've taken some fairly successful stations like KGBY and nickle & dime'd them into nothing. The station was on life support for years under the CC banner, so when it finally happened, no one cared. But at one time it was a pretty good station, though I guess you'd have to go back to the late 80's through mid 90's for that period. Yeah, deregulation has been great for the industry hasn't it? Hell they've even gutted KFBK.  It's still the leader in that format in Sacramento, but a shadow of what it once was, all so a delusional CC could mine every penny in an effort to pay down an over 20 billion dollar debt that they can never pay down... Yeah, brilliant execs at that company eh?

I see your point. Jack "broke the curse" of the 93.7 frequency so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Agreed.  KGBY was a solid AC station back in the day and KFBK isn't the same.  You can tell by listening.  The emphasis on a more quality product is evident when only the sister AM/FM shared the building.  Now they have 6.

Funny, I had to double check your number.  Technically they had 6 for a short time.  Now they have 5 stations and 6 signals.

So I'll just say it, I don't like News-talk on FM.  I think it's a complete waste of fidelity.
