Conway and Handel last Friday night
« on: February 26, 2012, 06:13:01 PM »

Friday night (2/24) on KFI had to be the worst radio ever.  Bill Handel was on talking about the chase (replaying Bill from the morning show) and shootout from the night before.  He was raving about the coverage provided by Conway and Steve Gregory. Handle was gushing to the point that I thought he was going to start making out with Conway had he been there. Handle went on about how it was the most riveting, the best radio he'd ever heard and in the process what followed was the worst radio ever heard. And that was before the singing.  Hello Robin, were you listening to this crap?  Awful!

What you didn't mention was the cringe moment at about 8:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the Conway/Steckler show where Conway was talking about him losing/winning a lot of money at Santa Anita and Steckler blurting out (along with Aron Bender) how Conway had a gambling problem and how Steckler would go with Conway to a Gambler's Anonymous meeting.  Any synergy these guys had in the past was long gone with Conway getting extremely defensive.

And the way KFI was beating the Steven Gregory drum got very tiresome with Steven Gregory being interviewed by every KFI talk show host with Steven Gregory repeating how he had a full bottle of scotch after the incident.

The Steve stuff was funny but dragged on too long.  Conway singing a song to Steve was funny - but it should've lasted 20 seconds, not four minutes.

Conway "has a gambling problem" would've been funnier if he'd gotten "stage" angrier.  If they pushed him to the point of shouting and yelling, I think the bit worked.  But, in this case, I almost wonder if Conway was genuinely mad because he got very quiet and tried to play it cool.  He even snapped at Angel Martinez, which isn't like him.  That sort of made the bit awkward.  Still funny, though.

it was so awful and cringeworthy that you listened to what seems like the whole thing?

I work/worked in radio, so I listen to the show from a producer's point of view --- so it's hard for me to gauge if it's any good.
