Woody Windham
« on: March 03, 2012, 01:49:36 AM »

Cumulus sure does keep it interesting.
From Facebook (so you know its true)
‎"Woody with the Goodies" has a new home! Beginning Monday listen to Woody Windham on our "sister station", News Talk 1320 WIS-AM weekdays from 7-10 am. Magic 98.5's TJ McKay moves into mornings 6-10 am on Magic 98.5 beginning this Monday playing you the best of the 60's, 70's and 80's and much, much more every day!
Looks like TJ McKay takes over in mornings while they track afternoon drive.  Hunter Herring anyone?
Will Woody play music on a news-talk?
I guess Bill Benton is out?

Thoughts?

I have listened to Woody since I was a child going back to the old WCOS AM 1400 days and just cannot see Woody talking.  I wonder if this is a mistake because I just can't see him talking for three hours without spinning music.  I know that T.J. McKay will do a good job and maybe they will bring back either Hunter herring or Doug Enlow.  I know when Woody has been out lately Doug has been filling in for him and always used to listen to Doug on the old WNOK 1230 days and Woody on 1400.  man that brings back good memories.

I couldn't guess what Woody's numbers are, but his endorsements must bring in a good amount of revenue
Wont they lose a lot of that with this change?

I'd love to hear Hunter Herring or Doug Enloe back on the air. But so far Cumulus has only cut. They havent added
This cant be the end of the changes for them.
Format flip for Magic? Newstalk WIS? Both? They must have a plan, right?

Bet it's WTCB to Country or CHR depending on Wednesday's trends.

That may be, but I cant believe that Cumulus thinks they can maximize revenue with Woody doing a talk show and TJ on a morning classic hits show. (no offense to Woody or TJ)
Then again, I questioned Jonathan on WCOS, so what do I know?
Wonder if WTCB is expecting a good trend, considering how long they went all Christmas this year

Wow now if WTCB went country that would have come full circle for 106.7...

Yes it would be full circle but we have already seen that in Charleston on 92.5 do we really need to see it on 106.7 in Columbia also, I mean gee I like country music heck I have station that plays it, but we already have a three  Country station battle in Charleston 92.5,96.9,103.5 and boy thats worked out well. If 106.7 goes country then we will have 97.5, 93.9, and 94.3 with country music in Columbia along with 106.7, sounds like a summer rerun.  Here in our area we have played country music for 12 years here on WLRE 92.9,96.5,98.7 and last July 105.3 changes from Rock to Country and covers a lot of the same area we cover. How many country stations do you need to cover one place, must be more than one or two I guess. 103.5 in Charleston and 97.5 in Columbia are solid country stations and the best any one is going to do due is put a slight dent in them and not much more.

There is no way Cumulus would take B106 country.  They are the top biller in their cluster.  If it's true that Cumulus is all about money, they would not take down their cash cow.  Why else would they put Woody on a talk station in a format he has never done?  His sponsors and their money.

Here's the reason why WTCB will change formats: before the Holiday book, they were down below a three share 12+. That means all but their P1's have abandoned the station. That also means that "top biller" status will be going away, once the 4 book average reflects the erosion of audience. They are doing nothing programming-wise that would reflect better performance.

Ultimately, Cumulus will shift the WTCB $$ to WOMG and give Clear Channel some competition for either Country (WCOS) or CHR (WNOK). I believe Woody Windham moving to WISW is indicative of that strategy.

WWNQ is a complete non-factor. It doesn't have to be, but it is so poorly programmed, it has no chance at this point.
