The new NBC comes to Delaware
« on: March 03, 2012, 06:56:23 AM »

Noticed on this site that CNN Radio News is done and NBC Radio News is returning.  Then while listening to Cool 101.3 yesterday, I noticed they were airing the NBC news.  About a minute worth of headines with commercials, just before the local news.

Do they use any NBC sounders with that newcast?

Its a very modern sound to NBC, no sounders like CBS or like the NBC of old. It is like Mutual near the end. They still sent a TOH newscast (5 minutes). the BOH news was suspended.  But at :20 and :40 they sent a one-minute newscast with a 60-second commercial.  That is what the NBC segment on Cool 101.3 sounds like.

The 1-minute NBC newscast has been around for a while.  It's targeted at FM music stations.  Not exactly sure when it was started, but it was definitely post-9/11 (the renewed interest in radio news after 9/11 was the catalyst for developing the newscast).  I first heard it 3 years ago, but I know it was around before that.

The top-of-the-hour NBC newscast is indeed brand-new and replacing CNN.

No irony there.

Nothing new there except the presentation, which will change again another day.
