Question.....Was WBAP's COL Dallas at that time?  IMO it wouldn't make sense to share the same frequency with two COL's.  Both 570 *and* 820 should have had the same COL, no?

I'm old enough to remember hearing "WFAA" on 820 in the evening here in Florida....I actually caught WFAA as 570 back in 1975-76.  It took WQAM 560 to go off the air, which they did on Monday mornings then.

"WBAP Dallas"? Amon Carter would sooner have tossed himself in front of a moving train. (The story goes that when Carter absolutely had to take a business meeting in Dallas, he would pack his own lunch so he wouldn't have to spend money "over there.")

No, it was "WBAP Fort Worth" and "WFAA Dallas." The signals on both 570 and 800/820 came from a site in Grapevine where DFW airport now sits, and they provided city-grade service to both cities on both frequencies, so there was no issue using separate COLs. In fact, the rules of the day mandated it, since WBAP's studio was in Fort Worth and WFAA's in Dallas.
