Being from Detroit, you get used to the same old cracks, and how it comes up over a talk-show host, I don't get it. but, let me say this. If you were apart of the " get a gun for Doc" thing, he won't need it. he will be in the 'burbs. he will be fine. as for the radio show- the whole purpose of this thread, while WXYT doesn't have the biggest audience, and the signal isn't that great. I wouldn't say he's coming here for nothing. Talk radio 1270 is relatively new, so they are still getting their footing. they benefit from Red Wings and Tigers games being on the station and commercials on their FM counterpart, which has plenty of ears here right now. This station was talk until they went to sports in 2001 once they got the Red Wings and Tigers, and 97.1 began their sports reign on this frequency before they went to FM(I hope that makes sense, sorry if it doesn't).in conclusion, Doc has a shot. I felt bad about how he got let go in cincy, and was happy to see he was coming here.
Here is a comical story. 1270 was angling to get the Red Wings from WJR, years ago. Mike Illich the owner (of Little Ceasars Pizza fame). Mike wanted the Wings to be on a 50KW station. Well, as you know, WXYT built that facility. But, its coverage is so goofy, the D/A so inefficient, that they were better off staying with the Southfield site and at 5KW. Part of their problem is the
municipality that they located the new site in, restricted their tower height. I think that is why they originally added 97.1 to the mix. Jock Fritz was the guy that bought 1270 from ABC many moons ago. It was talk for years. He was one of the first Rush Limbaugh affiliates.
