In typical Cincinnati fashion, instead of addressing professional issues like local yokel ad spots/production, pregnant brain fade pauses, and blank air for minutes, the first guys to reply here said "turn it off". AWESOME! Evolve much? Oh and 55? 700? I will listen to whatever I want. But thanks for the suggestion.
I was going to comment, "sounds like a typical Bengals fan response" and lo and behold the member had "Bengals" in his moniker! Brilliant!
"Hey buddy, if you don't like the Bengals, move outta town"! Exactly. Thanks for validationg my original point-lameness and uber-mediocrity is sought and supported in Cincinnati on many levels.  I listen to plenty of other non CC/Cumulus radio and they seem to hire hosts with a knowledge of pronunciation and grammar. Duh.  I know, I know, I must be a CC devotee/employee to criticize 1160. Riiiight.
Got no ax to grind, try and rationalize my comment as a crazy whatever the f*** you want, thing is, 1160 is unlistenable. Technically and production-wise.
Bad shuffling on the programming and allowing the local 'talent' to be weak hacks verbally. Truly a Fisher-Price Mickey Mouse radio station. How many times can you claim "mind-share" from an ad spot when it's simply overplaying a non-clever amateurish ad from a car repair client.  Oh, big rule in "PRO" radio, try to dissuade the client from voicing their own spots.

I agree with you that there is a tendency by some on this board to respond with "turn it off" or "don't listen," forgetting that the forum is supposed to be about discussing the merits, failings, or personal likes and disappointments with radio. We all know there is an on/off button and a tuner. But can we not express our disappointment and the reasons we choose to stop listening? In all fairness though, this is not exclusive to the Cincinnati board. It happens all across the Radio-Info spectrum, which is why I take issue with you insinuating that this is somehow a problem with only Cincinnati people. Your broad brush stereotyping is intentionally condescending but does little to get your point across. "Evolve much?" Please.

That said, some of your comments about the level of professionalism at 1160 may be valid, but you seem to miss the point that they are a small company with a limited budget. Not everyone can afford the slick production values that we get from the Clear Channel, Cumulus, Cox stations. It doesn't keep me from enjoying some, granted not all, of the programming on 1160. I like Laura Ingraham and am looking forward to hearing Huckabee's program. I'm tired of the combative, tabloid approach to talk radio that we get from Hannity, Beck, etc. Excepting Deters and Savage, I find 1160 and 1450 WMOH to be refreshing and more civil alternatives to the tiring hype on 55KRC and the lame potty humor of Eddie & Tracy on WLW.

So I'll keep listening to 1160 as well as certain elements of the other stations, keeping the reality in mind that some are operating on a much more limited budget than others. It will not keep me from enjoying some of what they offer. I applaud the folks at 1160 for being the "little one" and graciously hanging in there. And the owner even participates in these discussions while not hiding behind a moniker like most of us. Best wishes for continued success, jry.

Thanks. I'll say one thing. I'll put the production quality of Rob Williams (former CC employee) up against anything going on, elsewhere, in radio.
The overall sound of the station improved the minute he walked into the building. That is what i don't get about what Buck posted.
The overall sound is light years ahead of where it was a couple of months ago.

JRY I have listened to 1160 off and on lately it sounds fine to me, I think some people like to complain just to have something to post here,
Rob Williams does a good job at making your station sound very professional, you got the best of CC's imaging people with him.
It's sad that some bloggers but not all have nothing good to say lately on these post.
You seem to always have something nice to say that negates the naysayers.

Buck, you can listen to whatever you want. Yep. No argument here. If you wanna make yourself miserable, go for it.

You can also post whatever opinion you want of whatever station you want. No argument here. Again..go for it.

Oh by the way...I have the right to reply to you in any way *I* see fit, as long as I adhere to the site's TOS. And i will indeed...go for it.

Sportster, jry...and the others....who's paying you to "troll" for 1160?
Oh, I like the "I must be miserable" part as well, again, classic local yokel response!
It's so funny to see the armchair psychologist summation of a point that apparently hits a nerve somewhere! ha!
Obviously, 1160 are as homer and local as the cc cumulus cox channels. Really independent! Same old retort-don't listen if you don't like it!
Really? You want less listeners than you already (don't) have?
New program director or not, it sounds the same. UC Bearcats baseball on in the midday/drive time. Brilliant. Take the $ and run, guys. I still hear dead air DAILY. Double spots 2x DAILY. More spots in a row than CC Cum or Cox or whomever your supposed big Goliath enemy is!
Inability to take calls when there is a remote for sport shows; yet bitching about no callers. Duh.
and it IS a local phenomenon, thusly the term "homers" when it comes to basic universal science: Radio broadcasts and correct pronunciation and professional spots. Are you really trying to appeal to the hilljack who personally knows your sponsors? THAT should really help your station grow.
Free coffee for an insurance policy. I'm all over THAT. the little station where everyone goes when they're fired. Great.

Curious, Does 1160 have any local news, sports, weather and traffic reports during the day?

The new progressive talk WVKO-AM 1580 here in Columbus is not doing any of this...
They don't even have any local talk show during the Weekdays. This is because just "one man of many hats"
is running that station and they stubbornly refuse to hire any newsmen/women on the staff. They don't even have any local talk shows. 1160 can't be any worse then WVKO-AM 1580 here in Columbus.
