5000 MAINERS SIGN PETITION TO FLUSH RUSH
« on: March 09, 2012, 08:14:09 AM »

..and presented to Cary Pahigian at Portland Radio Group, according to RBR. Protesters also outside the building.  Cary's response: “I do believe he crossed the line. But there also is an issue of free speech. What is the line? And who is the arbiter of the line?” -and indicates that the show will continue.

However, the term "free speech" is appropriate for describing relationship between the people and government; not between people and other people/businesses.

It's probably no coincidence that this petition was presented on the International Day of the Woman; yesterday.

At least three Portland-area sponsors have pulled out, including DownEast Energy.

Also, out of all the network commercial avails in Rush's show, now less than half are paid. The remaining are PSA's.  And now, even the American Heart Association doesn't want their PSA's on Rush's show!

This has taken on a life of its own; beyond name-calling, but now is a women's issue.  Therefore, it's an issue for all of us.

I sampled WGIR-AM today, and one of their commercial breaks just after Glenn Beck and prior to Rush Limbaugh contained a PSA for womeningovernment.org!

I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on radio or TV but I thought that responsible speech was synonymous with free speech.  Rush said some very hateful accusations about another person which were not true.  That qualifies as slander as I understand it and he should have to answer for it in a court of law.  Moreover, he used the public airwaves to deliver his hateful statements and IMHO should now be deprived of such as a result.

That's exactly my point.  "Free Speech" is peoples' protection from the government.   The lack of "Responsible Speech" is dealt with by public opinion, sponsors dropping or coming on board, or a court of law seeking redress/equity.

But Rush should not be "deprived of such" by any government authority.

We're going to differ on this point.  The gubmint is responsible for managing the public airwaves for the "public good".  Rush clearly stepped way out of bounds in this diatribe against Ms. Fluke which is a clear violation of the public interest.  His access to public airwaves should be curtailed.

Let haters like Limbaugh go to private communication methods as did Stern and others.

Most politicians and pundits have stepped in it from one time or another, left or right, conservative or liberal.. It is time to move on from this one.

Lincoln, NE: A mighty 7 people show up for Flush Rush protest

http://journalstar.com/news/local/half-dozen-picket-klin-in-protest-over-limbaugh-s-comments/article_13342fc6-8672-5e85-9811-9fa314510730.html

>>But KLIN (1400 AM) has no plans to drop "The Rush Limbaugh Show," said John Bishop, program director for the station ..."I've said this quite a few times -- and even on the air -- that it's ultimately a free-market decision," Bishop said. "We have Rush because there's an audience for it, and we have advertisers who want to advertise on it." Bishop said the station had not lost any local advertising since the Limbaugh incident, but some have asked that their ads be moved

50,000,000 Mainers and Jesus H. Christ Himself could sign that petition, and Cary won't pull Rush off the air.  Backed into a corner, and the guy is like a wounded animal.  He'll NEVER change his mind.

Unless Steve G. tells him to.
