Per Twitter posts from employees, today was Hammond's last day at Cumulus.

This post originated about an hour and a half ago, and no other response.  One would suppose there's not much surprise at this news.  Ed's been gone almost two years.  Who needs gravitas in Knoxville?  There's somebody in Atlanta ready to launch Wal-Mart Country in Knoxville.

You're right - no big surprise here. A for-now-on-top radio station sinking...

Anybody care to speculate what could happen now? Perhaps J.P. snapping up Hammond. He already has Ed. With their experience, not to mention contacts in country music, the potential is their to do a great job with a country format on 100.3. Just my thought.

There was talk of his taking a high-profile job in Knox County government a few months ago.

I think Lew's count topped out at two when he ran out of middle fingers.  Maybe front-desk Sheila will offer him hers.

If JP takes 100.3 country, (which I thought he would do originally when Citadel bailed on his LMA),  He could really put the financial hurting on Cumulus.  Hammond may have to sit out for a little while because I do not know if he still has the Citadel / Cumulus "release" of non compete clauses that Citadel negotiated for it employees that were canned by Cumulus during the buy out.  I do not have the figures but I will guess that Cumulus's country operation makes more money (profit) than the news talk operation.  If 100.3 flips, I doublt that the news talk's increased billings will off set the billings lost when 107.7 would lose to 100.3.

The move from first to worst begins. Soon, look for your new DJ staff, Thing One and Thing Two. Over 40 years of Knoxville FM heritage, gone. It was a great ride, Frog. Enjoy the ride down to the bottom.

Mike mentioned travel/mission work in Ethiopia on his Facebook page. Not sure what kind of noncompete would be in effect. Wild card: Does Cumulus cram down Huckabee in place of Rush, and if so, does JP sign Rush?
