Houston Gets New TV Sports Network
« on: March 08, 2012, 10:10:54 AM »

I know this isn't a "radio" story, but it's definitely something of major interest in Houston broadcasting circles.

This is the story in today's Houston Chronicle:

"Comcast SportsNet Houston, the new regional sports network that will air Rockets games this fall and Astros games in 2013, plans to begin broadcasting in early October from its new 32,000-square-foot studio complex in the downtown Houston Pavilions, the network's general manager said Wednesday."

They say they'll have a full time staff of about 125 people. I think we can expect to see a few familiar national faces, and some familiar local faces on this new operation. And a bunch of young newbies of course.  Don't you know the tapes and resumes are already pouring in.

KUHF Houston Public Radio has the story, with actualities, by my old buddy Pat Hernandez.

Definitely looking at two feeds of this network (one for all areas, one for Rockets areas, and the second would be carried on satellite). I would be surprised if it gets on cable much north of Waco or I-20. I think it could be a non-entity entirely in Dallas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
