106.7 LITE ON "FEEL GOOD" OLDIES
« on: March 16, 2012, 02:09:36 PM »

Whenever I go out of town it's easy to tell the difference between 106.7 and other oldies
stations. Other stations are playing "feel good" oldies, the kind that make your insides go
AHHH.....OHHH. The kind of oldies your hear sometimes in supermarkets.

106.7 just play oldies....period. The "feel good" ones are about 1 in 10. They are trying to
cover too much territory and please too many folks. They need to narrow their focus a bit.

The oldies station in Columbus does a better job. Another station near La Grange with a very
weak signal (West Georgia something something) even sounds better. Both were concentrating
on "feel good" oldies instead of just laying a needle on an old record, which is the 106.7 approach.

You might want to take a look at my blog for this week: http://www.atlairwaves.blogspot.com

I don't know what's really going to happen, but I have a feeling something will.

never in a MILLION years did i expect to see a poster on a radio-info board suggest that an oldies station pay FEWER oldies.

listeners get it, they want to hear songs they can sing along with.

i always thought the old Lake 102 played too many songs.  their format, as far as i could tell, was B sides, stiffs, and hit songs by the wrong artist.

It's more improtant that they play the RIGHT OLDIES. And playing the right oldies would
consist of targeting your audience......which would result in less (but better) oldies.

Should a baker make their 20 best cakes or try to please everyone by baking 200?Huh It
pays to target your audience instead of trying to be everything for everybody.....which is
just a mess.

Let's not forget...... They are a "classic hits" station, not oldies.  To see the difference just check out pre-Jack CBS-FM and
post-jack WCBS-FM

Everybody says they hate Cumulus. Well, they did just launch an almost perfect All-News station in the ATL. Now that takes some skill. #GoMcVayAndDickey

106.7 still sounds way better than they did later last year.

Yes 106.7 sounds a little better but it will NEVER sound as good as it DID with the TOC.

Can't say if this is their only problem but they did go down in today's PPMs from 2.2 to 2.0.

Althought they are sounding better than they were a couple months ago.......what they have
now will never get them back to 3.0 which they had last August.

It almost seems Cumulus doesn't want them to succeed........then they can't turn 106.7
into something else.......in the future.
