Christian Contemporary?
« on: March 16, 2012, 08:01:33 PM »

Would a Christian Contemporary station work in Philadelphia? The only Christian music stations around are WZZD, WBYO, and WAWZ but they have very weak signals or no signal at all in the region. It would be nice if Philadelphia got their own Christian music station.

The area DID have a CCM station-WSJI 89.5 licensed to Cherry Hill. It's now an EMF station running the K-Love format.

97.1 gets the majority of the city, if only it could be a Class A and reach the suburbs.

Wait, 103.5 is also in Philly? I thought I Dx'd that from NYC one time in Lansdale. It actually was KTU too..

And I've lived near here all my life, except for the first 18 in Scranton.

The two 103.5's are translators. One of them is around Allentown, another is around Chester.

Don't forget "Reach Radio" (formerly "Reach FM"), WXHL from Christiana, DE.  With their network of translators and repeater stations they cover most of the metro area.

WZZD tried the format for several years, then gave up to go the talk route.  I don't believe there is a market for a new one.

Unfortunately, as a non-comm WXHL's ratings don't show for Wilmington's 12+ numbers, where the flagship station 89.1 Christiana, DE is located.  I'm assuming the numbers are loyal listeners, but not high numbers.  My guess is the same for the Philly/Del Co translators.  As they are listener supported, as long as enough cash comes in, they're in business.  Kind of a different ball game from the commercial stations.
