B103, 94X, 'HLI, KJOY SOLD!!!
« on: March 26, 2012, 04:14:58 PM »

Connoisseur Communications has brought the 4 LI stations from Barnstable.

My predictions.....

-B103 stays the same.
-94X is burnt toast, flip by Labor Day.
-KJOY begins simulcasting on 94.3
-If KJOY does not simulcast, what about "Bob FM"!

The 4 stations being sold are part of the Long Island Radio Group.

WHLI-AM-1100 Adult Standards
WIGX-FM-94.3 "94X" Adult Hits (?) ("Hits of Generation X" - 1986-2006 approximately)
WKJY-FM-98.3 "KJOY" AC
WBZO-FM-103.1 "B103" Oldies/Classic Hits

I'd say that 94X is ripe for change...Connoisseur does run "BOB-FM" formats in other markets.
For 'HLI...likely the same...but you never know...

I posted a while back that the low-rated WIGX 94.3 should be bought by JVC Broadcasting, and used to simulcast the programming of WJVC, My Country 96.1. WJVC cannot be received in most of Nassau County, yet has respectable ratings of about 2.0, islandwide. 94.3, has a rather weak signal to have its own programming, but as a part of a simulcast could make the country station available to many more listeners on Long Island, who live in Nassau County and Western Suffolk. The PD of My Country had said in an interview last year that they would like to extend their signal to the west. Perhaps the new owner would be amenable to reselling WIGX, once they take possession of it.

FYI - Long Island Radio Group previously sold off WRCN and WKJI (now WJVC) in January 2011 for $3 million.

As a listener in Southeast Queens to WHLI, it concerns me that we may lose the only station that plays some Pop Standards. WHLI is the next best station to what WNEW-AM 1130 was.

But I will hold my breath that WKJY (KJOY 98.3) will stay the same. Out the four stations owned by Barnstable KJOY is the only one in the top 10 with a 3.4 from the February Arbitron.

A reminder to Kevin that Reading Is FUNdamental.  WBZO posted a 4.0 share (6+) in the same ratings period.

How is BOB-FM that much different from the "generation x" format currently on 94.3 this week?

Major Armstrong,

We are all human and make mistakes. I overlooked WBZO 4.0 fifth place being owned by Barnstable.

Anybody know what these stations are billing?  Can't imagine there's much on WHLI or 94.3.

I can think of some far more exciting formats for the better signals of the four, and none of it
includes variations on the AC, or classic hits  Lips sealed format
