I didn't know that WLOS 13 carried Soul Train with the late Don Cornelius early in its run. In it's first season it was seen in select markets (like NYC, LA, Chicago [where it began in B&W on WCIU 26 in August 1970], Atlanta, Cleveland, etc.) before clearing in more markets for the next 35 years on the air. Later WSPA 7 carried ST in the 1980s, then WASV/WYCW 62, and back on WSPA until it ended in the late-2000s.

Soul Unlimited was Dick Clark's answer to Soul Train and it was short lived on ABC. It ended because of the conflict between the format and Mr. Cornelius' show.

If you'll look at my North Carolina retro for this same date,
you'll notice that WGHP High Point and WCTI New Bern were
also carrying "Soul Train."  I remember that for most of the
'70s WGHP and WLOS carried "American Bandstand" and "Soul
Train" back to back from 12:30-2:30 on Saturday afternoons.

Aw, now I like Flo! A Rhodes Scholar, no; but geeky and goofy and probably a lot of fun to hang with!  Wink
