WiFi radio that is Programmable?
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:45:57 PM »

Got several standalone wifi radios that use the Reciva portal.  Is there an available radio like this that would allow the user to program their own URLs for various stations?  Kind of like a scanner or ham tranceiver that you can program with a computer.  You know, maybe 100 presets that are programmed directly into the radio?

Reciva is okay, but some versions do not allow personal streams or stations.

The Grace Digital products allow programming via Reciva.com.  Registration is similar to Roku boxes (by serial number).  I don't have a personal streaming setup, but theoretically it is capable of connecting to one.

Was trying to get one that had presets that could be entered independently of Reciva.  What happens in the case of Reciva going belly up?  Want one that can be programmed like favorites or bookmarks on a computer.

Maybe the Roku can do that. I don't have one of their TV boxes, but I owned a Roku Soundbridge and it definitely supported presets. You'd just point your browser at it like you would a router, log in, and you can add custom URLs and label them. Maybe they kept that functionality when they jumped into the set top box biz... Worth a look.

I'm not expert in this area, but the version of Reciva I have gives the option of entering an otherwise unavailable stream into My Streams.  The trick is to be able to locate the URL for the audio you are looking for from its web page; sometimes it's easy to find, other times it's well-nigh impossible.  The Reciva site used to have a good deal of information on how to search for a URL, but it's no longer so helpful.  Sometimes you can email the audio provider and request the URL.

Can't help any more than that, and I've often wondered myself about what would happen if Reciva were to vanish from the scene.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the Logitech Squeezebox allows you to search the web for your stations and store dozens of favorites and 6 presets?
