Unfortunately, when a general manager pulls a Luckoff or a John Laton, their position simply gets replaced, and no jobs are saved as those cuts dictated by corporate happen anyway.  About the only time I've heard of someone successfully sacrificing themselves to keep others employed happened at Cumulus Topeka about three years ago.  Rose Diehl was OM/PD there as well as middays at KMAJ 107.7, and I understand she agreed to leave so long as the other planned cut in her cluster didn't happen.  In that case, she was middle management, which is easily and cheaply replaced.  The same can't be said for general managers.

Your right Kent.  In the case of Luckoff, he simply had enough of being associated with horse-thieves that were runining his stations.  He simply couldn't stand to put up with it anymore.  For the staff, I'm sure his departure really just accelerated the demise of the once-great news-talk station.  Sadly the bean-counting idiots are so dumb they don't even realize or care how they managed to kill their golden goose.  Back to OKC though... The goose is pretty much being killed as we speak.  Bill and his people have done wonders with the little they have have to work with.  Now this makes it even harder.  At some point, probably starting now, things are going to have to start sliding downhill out of sheer lack of resources and manpower.

Without a doubt.  It's bad for the stations, it's bad for the industry, it's bad for the company's eventual bottom line (although they are too stupid to realize it), and most importantly, it's horrible for the guys that are now trying to hunt a job in this near-depression job market.

You said it well. A lot of good people looking for work.

During the noon break, I heard something that I don't believe that I have heard before, at least certainly not recently. A story ended: "Randy Renner, KTOK news". Huh

Interesting.  RR is a great news guy so that's actually one of the best things they could do locally considering the cheapness of their corporate bosses.  With that being said, my guess RR is probably working part-time for them and has other projects of his own in addition to working for there.
