Wasn't 1510 licensed to Mineola at one time?

Yes.  It's the old KMOO (AM).

The reason KVNE and KGLY are the re-transmission stations for those translators in Canton is because E-String has no originating stations of its own so it puts other peoples signals (without their permission) on the applications so that he can get the translators and sell them!! Its a scam that the FCC is sort of allowing.

As for KFRO and KDOK neither of them are for sale at present. Townsquare has said that it is not in their corporate charter to sell any stations. And KFRO is tied up in red tape, after all Access.1 paid 200,000 for it with Dudley Waller!

For what it's worth, down Highway 19 in Athens, KLVQ 1410's translator on 94.5 originally was listed as re-broadcasting KVNE.  That later changed, of course, and KLVQ's owner Lake Country Broadcasting agreed to pay E-String Wireless $20,000 for it.

Canton translator K229BA's application for 93.7 lists KGLY as the primary station (originally KFRO-FM was shown); K239AN 95.7 lists KVNE (KLJT originally shown).

Does this indicate some sort of scam, like you mentioned, or is it good business sense?  As for me I'll stick with referring to the primary stations listed on the applications as "placeholders."  I tend to be cautious when discussing such situations on public forums like this one.

Yes it does they falsified an FCC application! They have no rights for the re-transmission of those stations and have not retained permission to broadcast on them. They along with others don't have an originating station to re-transmit on them either. So either way the applications should be dismissed as they are in-valid

Yeah, I know. I was just wishing. Townsquare can't seem to keep KDOK on the air for more than a few weeks at a time, and ETRG can't even transmit a legal ID on KFRO. Sometimes you get KFRO Longview/KCUL Marshall, sometimes you get WJSO Pikeville. Add that to the recent, apparently permanent demise of 10kW pirate DKOFY, and horrid sound quality that has existed on KEES for months, and that about sums up the state of AM radio in ETX.

Sadly both KDOK and KFRO will probably face the same fate as KOFY. They will simply take a business loss and turn them off and write it off their taxes

Good luck to Eberhart with this station. I enjoy listening to KGAF online. Maybe he can put in a bid for KFRO or KDOK in the near future and put some life back into one of those heritage signals.

Eberhart's done a fine job of bringing back "Memories 1580" KGAF in Gainesville. http://www.memories1580.com/ I just wonder if the locals in Canton will go for the oldies.

I'm afraid thats what is going to happen soon. They just dont give a damn about them. And its stupid they wont put them on the market. I wish the FCC had a rule that said a station HAD to be offered for sale first (with no takers) before it went dark.

BTW where are the offices now for KEES? That super low audio makes me want to break into the studio to push those faders UP!

Yet Townsquare has sold out of Midland-Odessa twice.  They got the ex-Clear Channel stations and sold them to ICA Media, which owns one of the TV stations there, and they just announced they were selling the stations they got from Double O Broadcasting back to Tommy Vascocu a week or two ago.

Before Eberhart announced he was buying it either this week or late last, a former friend of mine was lined up as the buyer.  He was interested in trying to get his hands on one of those translators until he looked at the FCC rules, which stated that only translators licensed on or before their ruling allowing AM's on FM translators could be used to relay an AM.  That should effectively rule out those new translators in Canton....

That rule was effectively overturned with the release of FCC 12-29 the fourth report and order and the third order of consideration on translators and the creation of a Low Power Radio Service(No I'm not maiking this up) dated March 19th 2012.
I beleive ALL translators are now legal for AM use (Or will be after publishing in the federal register. + 30 days yada yada yada)  I would suspect an STA would be granted now  just like when they started AM on FM a few years ago.
