HUGE SPORTSRADIO SHIFT IN SALT LAKE CITY, NEW RADIO HOME FOR UTAH JAZZ
« on: May 24, 2012, 05:07:41 PM »

Taylor On Radio reports the following in yesterday's edition:

"The owner of the NBA Jazz is “buying two (maybe three) stations in Salt Lake City.” The Larry H. Miller group was LMAing Cumulus-owned sports “1320 K-Fan” KFNZ – and using Fox Sports network feed there - but Cumulus wanted to take back the operations. So LHM is buying the “Zone” AM/FM combo from the Larry Patrick-run SLC Divestiture Trust, which has held them on behalf of the Simmons group. Now we hear that both “Zone” KZNS, Salt Lake City (1280) and KZNS-FM, Coalville (97.5) will bring over its Fox Sports Radio programming. The FM takes the branding of “Fox Sports Radio 97.5.” LHM says the strategy is to make 1280 “an all-star mix of Utah’s best sports radio talent and live game broadcasts, including serving as the new home of the Utah Jazz.” While the FM will “provide the national perspective…in addition to simulcasting the Jazz games and carrying the Salt Lake Bees and other local and national game broadcasts.” Former Simmons group EVP Randy Rogers will serve as GM of both stations. Now the question is – what will Cumulus do with 1320? LHM is taking away a fair amount of its current talent. We now have a price on LHM's purchase of the Zone stations, and it’s $3.25 million."
