Considering that there are more Neo-Con brainwashing will-shoot-you-dead-in-your-yard (if you're wearing a hoodie)  talk radio stations in the Atlanta area market than there are flies in Africa, I am having difficulty in understanding the direction and need of your sarcasm. There are 0.00000 liberal stations and less than half of that number of centrist/common sense stations too.

Yes, I know the argument is that liberal talk radio doesn't ever work because there is no market for it.

I (personally) think that is the highest unintended compliment anyone could ever give to a liberal, based off of the pure stupidity I've heard on the AM airwaves. (and yes, I am an avid talk radio listener....for one because I can't stand any of the "music" aired and two: know thine enemy)

And why is that?  If there were money to be made with it, several stations would be doing it already.  It's the free market concept that you libs just can't, or won't, understand.

YES !  We get the point.  This thread is less than 24 hours old and at least three times you have told us how stupid and dumb and boring liberals are.

Thank you for sharing with us that something is happening at WGUN that some people will want to observe... just to see what happens.

May I remind you that when the presidential election is all said and done this year,  it will be a very close call.  About half the people in this country will vote for the candidate representing the conservative point of view.  And about half the people will vote for the candidate representing the liberal point of view.  So that means that maybe half the people agree with you.  Liberal talk on the radio is really dumb.   It also means that maybe half the people in this country think Conservative talk on the radio is really dumb.

I think the intelligent people in this world have come to realize that some conservatives love to turn on the radio and wallow in their conservatism.... and that liberal people are content to live out their liberalness with or without the radio.  I don't know that the size of an audience proves or disproves intelligence.   The size of the audience does prove the financial sustainability of the broadcasts.

This is a conversation that can take us no where good!   

IQ is one thing.

Graciousness is something else.

Common Sense is yet another  issue.

Political Integrity and "civics that works" are something else.

I have a feeling that ProgressiveTalk was not focused in IQ scores when he made that tongue-in-cheek slam about conditions in Georgia.

Tell you what.  We will all gather in a room somewhere and all take an IQ test.  I'm sure all of us assume that somebody else in the room will have lower score.  Then we can spend the evening comparing resumes and genealogy and whatever else.  I have lived in eight states and I suspect someone in the room can top me on that....  but those of us who have put down roots time and time again can probably make a few observations about Georgia that will make the natives squirm a bit.  And then we can talk about the other places that make Georgia look pretty good.

The topic of this thread is a radio station that has begun airing some liberal content.  I have a feeling that with a handle like ProgressiveTalk,  the topic was NOT IQ....  but maybe the thick, murky swamp of walking around everyday waist-deep in boiled-down Southern Conservatism.

I am tire of condescending remarks from people who are "progressive" regarding conservatives and southerners. It IS about IQ....the question is do southerners have the same intelligence as people living in other areas. The mainstream media certainly portrays southerners in a less than positive light as do most "progressives."
The comment was derogatory - not "tongue in cheek." And I take offense at your comments and attitude, too. What exactly is this "southern" conservatism you find so "thick and murky?"

I don't know how much leeway the Managing Board Editor would give us for this type of discussion now that we are in the T-I-O section, and I don't want to find out the hard way so let me see if I can keep within the boundaries of the playing field.

Only ProgressiveTalk can tell us whether he was tongue-in-cheek or if he was talking about IQ.  I am not going to attempt to speak on his behalf.

As I have moved about the country, I have "plagiarized" speech patterns peculiar to the area that appealed to me.  Right in the middle of conversations I have had people "break stride" and blurt out this question:  "Where in the hell are you from?"    But if you walked into the room where I was participating in informal discussion about maybe the content of seminar we had all been attending that day,  you would have little trouble pegging me as having Southern origins based on my speech pattern.

So what do I find "thick and murky"? 

First would be the incestuous marriage of conservative politics and the Southern evangelical church.  (That trait has now gone nationwide.)

Second would be the lack of respect for the laboring class and the concept that it might be o.k. for labor to be organized.

Third would be the  lack of respect for public schools and the obsession with private schools and now charter schools.

Fourth would be the unwillingness to support ethics laws.

Fifth would be the "chip on the shoulder" mentality about  Good Ole Boys, Bubba and the Redneck.  The Southern politician wants to pretend his background is that of Bubba,  and he wants to address the populace as being made up of Rednecks (which he wants you to know is his own background) but then he wants to get really torqued if you suggest that such a conversation might be an indicator that some of the participants might have a slightly lowered IQ.

Sixth would be hatred of mass transit in any form.  The topic is not even discussable!

I guess that is a pretty good list for starting a converstion....
      a conversation that can take us no where good!

You seem to be an articulate, educated person and have no excuse for such bigoted, stereotyped comments.
1. Politics and the church? The Roman Catholic church is by no means a "southern" phenomenon. Jeremiah Wright is pure Chicago but spews racial and cultural hatred. Plenty of other examples.....
2. Right to work states are only southern states? I think not! Once again you display prejudice and ignorance without facts to back them up. And what's wrong with giving a person a choice regarding joining a union? Unions were necessary in the early 1900's but not today - at least not in the USA. What about your buddy Steve Jobs and his slave labor Apple shops in China? I don't hear you complaining about Apple and it's lack of business morality. Oh....right. Apple is not a southern company...…
3. What's your problem with private schools? Obama's kids go to private school. Look at Atlanta system and you will see why my kids are in private schools.

I find it hard to converse with a person overcome with foggy prejudice and bigotry.
I have found that intolerance, bigotry, and prejudice are universal human failings. They are found in every culture - Chinese, Russian, African, and American(both north and south)and have had their negative impact on nations/religions/races throughout history. There is no group of people, no matter how you define the group, that is free from these maladies
Where we get in trouble is labeling people.....black/white, northern/southern, liberal/conservative etc. Most people do not fit into convenient categories.....I know I certainly don't and I doubt you do either.
I'm an Atlanta native and have had to endure this prejudice my entire life - that's why I'm sensitive about it. So when you, Mr. Progressiveradio, or Bill Mayher start that derisive snickering about "stupid southerners" I'm going to call you on it.
