"Twould not seem to think that building penetration is as important as covering the commute - and 106.7 is perfect for that.

106.7 normally does come in across Macon with some static.  The other stations that were mentioned above come in during certain atmospheric conditions.  On average, many of the Atlanta stations go out between Forsyth and Bass Road in Macon.

Now, it may just be me but I use to live in Carrollton (live in Atlanta now).  When I lived in Carrollton, I listened to all the rock formatted stations including the river.  Went out there a few times since Christmas and 97.1 started fading out around Villa Rica.  Now according to radio-locator, that is about right, however, I recall listening to 97.1 in Carrollton city limits with 80% signal clarity.  It's no longer audible past Villa Rica.  Have they done something to the tower in the last 3 years that I don't know about?

104.7 (same tower as 106.7, same HAAT, but about 1/3 the power) comes in well past Cartersville and only breaks up around Calhoun or Dalton.  Not bad for a Loganville tower.

If Cumulus Atlanta 106.7  is all-news then it would have to carry more features like KGO-AM 810.
I know in San Francisco KCBS is more of a headline and hard news service on National, Local and Global news for San Francisco. While KGO is more local and Features news in SFO. I know when KGO-AM 810 does weekend talk they tend to focus more on National news and local issues.

WKRP, Dallas, GA from 1977-81. Did on air and engineering at WRFG 1979-80. During college GM for WGHR Southern Tech. While there we put the FM on the air with a whopping 16.5 watts ERP w/70' HAAT.Occupation:Movie Theatre Owner

If 106.7 turns off the stereo pilot they will sound slightly louder and have a little less static in fringe areas.

Remember the problem 106.7 was having with what sounded like overly-compressed audio (never sounded as "full" as River)? Maybe it won't matter with an all-news format.

Those maps are whack.  I was in Macon a couple of weeks ago visiting my sister, and I could basically get every Atlanta FM like it was local.  Hell the reception was actually better than where I live in FM overload hell.  The ones that really stood out were . 90.1, 92.9, 94.1, 94.9, 95.5, 96.1, 97.1, 98.5, 99.7, 103.3, 104.1, 105.3, 106.7.
All of those are big class C-somethings, with 97.1 and 106.7 being full class Cs with a line of sight towards Macon that doesn't include downtown ATL.  104.1 and 105.3 are south of town to boot, also with a clear line of sight.  The only surprise IMO is 95.5, which has the clear line of sight (same tower as 97.1) but much lower power and HAAT.

How did 105.7, 96.7, 107.5, 107.9, 100.5 come in?

Those frequencies were not audible because Macon has a station at 105.5, 95.5 (Peach), 100.5 (translator I believe), 107.9 was listenable but not great.  I was near the Idle Hour Country Club off of Forsyth RD.  I was using a http://www.ccrane.com/radios/shortwave-radios/ccradio-sw.aspx#.T507gNnhlio....

Wait I forgot Cumulus all-news aka "News and Information" would have to cross promote with local ABC affiliates like KGO-TV a Disney O&O. to gain ratings

Cox already has a form of the "news & information" slogan with Bulldog 103.7 ("News, Sports and Information Station"). You think Cumulus will try it anyway?

(I don't think I could warm up to "Yay-News" Tongue)
