Z88.3-HD3 Christian Rock Now On 106.3 in Mount Dora!
« on: April 08, 2012, 09:56:52 PM »

Congrats to Z88.3 on getting ALL of their HD programming on regular FM!
HD2 = Hot 95.9
HD3 = Rock 106.3

The all-new Rock 106.3 is broadcasting from Mount Dora.
Reception is a little spotty here in Apopka, but I can hear a new rock station coming in a little.

So that means the fulll 100000 wats is on?
Will other translators (such as the Villages one) continue with WMYZ or will it do the HD feed also?
Speaking for myself 88.3 is   a no go due to 88.1 WHIK Ocala. (that is unless trop hits)
88.7 can be received in sweet spots. Same with 96.9 (in my house).
88.3 88.7 and 96.9 fade like crazy in the car.

 I was kind'a hoping once the power increase at 88.3 happened that they would put their rock station on 88.7.

Have you tried the narrow ceramic filter trick?  That should give you a clearer shot at 88.3.  It was good enough to get rid of WWIA 88.5 in Palm Bay when I was a mile from their tower.

Do tell of this trick...

It involves replacing the IF ceramic filters in your tuner with narrower filters.  The ceramic filter is fingernail sized, usually brown, with 3 leads.  To save time in manufacturing, most tuners have a wide 280 kHz bandwidth.  That way they can just install them with no matching.  Because FM stations use +/-75 kHz deviation, all you really need is a bandwidth of 150 kHz.  If you don't care about RDS and other services, you can probably get even more selectivity with 110 kHz ceramic filters.  The more the better, although they should be matched, and if you put too many you need to add back some gain because they do have attenuation.  I had a page telling how to do this, but Yahoo in its infinite "wisdom" took down geocities.  Which means I need to put my page back up somewhere else --- which I will do soon.  But other people have pages describing it:

Have you checked to see if archive.org Wayback Machine has a snapshot of your old Geocities page?  They may not, but it could be worth the try.

My page was seriously outdated anyway.  Here is the updated version:

And my companion ceramic filter page:

I  hope the translator at 106.3 has better sound then the web stream which highs cut off majorly to my ears.
I'd do the narow filter trick if i had something other then a boombox.
Besides... dont you have to realine the tuner after installing filters? Not sure exactly what this means...
This is in part starting to sound like a topic for the DX board.....

It would really help a boom box as well.  And no - re-alignment is not necessary,  you are replacing one 10.7 MHz filter with another 10.7 MHz filter.
