Pop 2K: Observation
« on: April 16, 2012, 09:58:52 PM »

I know the end of the year countdowns for any given year...
the top 10 songs are the HITs - but during regular rotation
why doesnt POP 2K ever [rarely] play the "BIGGEST" songs from the
decade 2000 - 2009 / as in usher, yeah. . or 50's "in da club" ( it
miiight get a FEW*spins) or . . .but they will happy to play
the bottom 50, or their fave.of the week, such as outkast...

just wondering why

Outkast at the bottom? You are mad? Outkast had several hits.

Just because they don't play the same six songs over and over like the crap that Clear Channel, Cumulus and their ilk try to pass off as radio doesn't mean they aren't doing their job. These stations should be deep, not playing the same songs over and over.

Apparently you don't understand the concept.

Jo Nathan: Re-re-Re-Read my post
IT *seems* they play the following:
the bottom 50.
that is point one.

Number 2, in addition and seperate from playing the bottom 50,
(from the billboard charts) -pop-2k, (one of my fave. stations)
seems to Have a 'flavor of the week' as one programming block
will last for about ten days, and play outkast and all their hits
(to the point of nausea) and then you won't hear andre 3000 -
for an extended period of time. . the next "cycle" will target another
established artist and JUST play them - along w/ the station 'classics'
-
BUT baaarely ever touch songs, if ever that were HUGE in the 2000-2009 era.
there are about 15 songs i personally NEVER heard on pop 2k.. that
were on chr Radio when they were charting.. meanwhile, a song that
may have reached number one /and or / a one hit wonder, is all over the frequencey.

The point of my original post was too wonder why - the same could be
said for the 90s, on 9/ 80s on 8 - since there is no way possible to
expand the actual library, due to the music being "dated" why
do you hear the same dozen or so more than other artists/hits?

Just wondering...

<>
It appears the way pop2k is set up - you will hear a 2007 song
once and say wow, but like "regular radio" it will be given a set spin
count and when some one feels it had enough airplay they will rotate
a "new" song... ( new> to the station airwaves, not new in the sense of being
released as a current)>...that "new song" then will be pushed for about 2 weeks..

-POP 2k:
is an awesome station. I wish there was a little *more* variety and
less of a jack FM approach.. I embrace the top 30 (  i believe its 30),
of a particular year but there again:::::you run the risk of repeating the
same songs over - I mean how much does the "chart" change when people
call in and vote... Perhaps, they could 'tweek' it w/ a theme
still do the year in reviews, but alternate weekends, with a
theme "(best") summer songs, of 2002(for example) / or
WORSE songs of 2009, . . .

There is a station (CFNY) that gives the frequencey to Josie each weekend
and she does a top20 - countdown (not based on charts) but a theme...
"top20 'fight songs' /for example,  this past weekend
was "top20: best workout songs" / that would be great
for pop2k. . .OR even an ultimate END of the year countdown
POP 2k- best of the best - to aire jan 01, of the new year
the 30 best of the decade....

but they won't - they will continue -to be "just like every one else"

You have no idea  : )

You're not the first to say so - lol -
My buddy used to declare that on a daily basis.

I just know what I enjoy in radio -and how much
more potential a GOOD format or in this case a niche
could be improved to GREATness !!!
