Actually, if 102.9 were to go classic hits, they'd need to drop music from the last 25 years....

The issue with Lite 102.9 is that there's nothing about it that says "listen to me."  The playlist is mediocre at best, as is the air talent - presentation is OK - whereas K-104.7 has a live, local morning show, better playlist, etc.  They have come quite a way in a small amount of time.  107.9 The Link has its talk shows and is more personality driven which gives them a niche that attracts listeners.  Lite is sort of the odd one out.  Like I've said over and over, I don't know of any markets that can sustain 3 AC's in the long run.  One's gonna cave at some point, and I think it's obvious which one it should be.

I think that the link is a better AC now that they have become more mainstream.

All PPM markets are subscriber only now, I believe.  I'm not surprised that WXRC didn't subscribe - since when do they spend money on anything?  Do they even care what the numbers are?

Something's gonna have to happen at 102.9 and classic hits is the most reasonable choice.  Only classic hits station beats the heck out of being a 3rd rate AC.  I think it'd do extremely well and would dent 95.7.
95.7 actually is considered classic hits. There would be a lot of overlap.

The AC - Classic Hits saga continues for Charlotte.  First there are some really weak formats on the radio that call themselves AC and the "classic Hits" format for WXRC is a joke.  Dave plays music for Dave and there is nothing wrong with that when you own the station and are satisfied with the results that brings him.  K-104 and 107 and Lite are just there so to speak.  A strong CH station with a flare for promotion and some strong marketing will have to be dealth with by the big guys if it happens.  A signal that covers the market could make it happen.

The question is: how long does CC let Lite sit around and get the numbers it has been getting before something is done?  The books have been declining since Christmas yet they haven't really made any significant changes.

dave must be happy   #4 25-54  6a to 10a    #1 25-54  10a to 3p   #6 25-52 3p to 7p     How would another classic hits station have an effect on the ride if it was patterned after WCBS in NY and didn't have a full market signal?

It needs a full-market signal.  94.1 did decently, though, given its limited signal with classic hits.
I don't know how a variety/personality classic hits station like CBS-FM would affect a rock classic hits station like The Ride, but I'd think it would have some impact.

Keep in mind - Lite has been around for 20 years, and was AC even before that.  That's kinda hard to throw the towel in on.  But if the numbers don't improve, they'll have to.

Bases off of here in ATL and now CLT, I really don't think CC cares.  Its sad!
