LPB Upgrade Program Amps
« on: April 28, 2012, 02:14:42 PM »

There are upgraded program cards for a few different legacy consoles. Anyone doing this for LPB's?

Not that I know of. Maybe someone will make some. I love the old LPB Signature tanks, the ultimate tough console.

What needs upgrading on them?   I think they used low noise, high slew rate opamps throughout.  The ones I worked on always sounded pretty good.  Possibly just re-capping the boards would be all that's needed.

I was thinking in terms of getting the transformers out of the circuit. But it's true...good sounding console as it sits.

Transformers are your friends. That's what made these consoles so great...

I'd just do a good recapping and general overhaul. Meaning replaced burned out lights and other little things. The LPB boards as a rule sound very good.

Recap it, and rechip it by replacing all the 5532's and 5534's with new ones.  Pretty sure everything is socketed on those boards.  Been a little while since I've been in one.

They are great simple consoles.  As long as you don't need a few mix minuses, they are easy to use, sound pretty good and stand up to the harshest abuse.
